Title: FPS alloys - suspect poreous Post by: DavidLaver on 18 April, 2013, 09:07:44 AM I have a project car with two tyres that keep going flat. Alas I haven't (yet) been rigorous enough to work out if I've just been unlucky with the scrap tyres that go on it (out of a rubbish pile at a fitters it's no surprise to find many will be split or punctured...) or if there's a problem with those wheels. The wheels could be cracked - next time the tyres come off rather than a quick wire brush at the fitters I'm going to bring them back "naked" for a really close look. Cracks wouldn't be surprising - it was a rally car and many of the wheels that came with it were really mangled. They could be poreous. Its a mid 80s car. From memory the tyres go flat over a period of months not days but of course once flat and left the tyres crack... Would there be a problem with painting the inside of the rim? Is this "common practice"? David Title: Re: FPS alloys - suspect poreous Post by: DavidLaver on 18 April, 2013, 09:10:12 AM ...and its not yet at the point where I want to spend a lot of money. Tubes are the other obvious thought but finding somewhere willing to put them in is a challenge these days. The place I go is "old school" and knows its just to keep the thing mobile so I'm in with a chance. David |
