Title: SORN Notifications
Post by: SanRemo78 on 06 April, 2013, 09:35:56 PM
Perhaps this ought to be stickied??

If you sell a vehicle to a new owner please advise them that it is their responsibility to advise the DVLA of it's SORN status as soon as they get it. Failure to do so will result in a nasty fine of £80.

And if you buy a car without a current tax disc remember to SORN it immediately!!

Learnt by a bad experience?
I certainly learned soon after the fine was introduced, we moved a Dedra that had been donated from one private drive to another on a trailer, so the vehicle itself was on private property all the time. I eventually managed to convince them that as I already had 3 cars at the time that were taxed, why would I try to get away with not taxing another? but I wouldn't count on them being understanding.
It all seems a bit stupid if you've already notified the DVLA that the vehicle had changed hands, why could there not be a presumption that the status quo hadn't changed regarding the SORN.

A fine was issued to someone I know when the scheme was first introduced, who had an  old car locked away for a while, and was unaware that SORN existed. The good news is SORN need not be renewed each year now as it is open ended. A relief for people with several vehicles I expect. Richard
