Title: 2nd series Aprilia interior
Post by: simonandjuliet on 29 January, 2013, 09:28:22 PM
I am re-upholstering my car and have decided to have leather seats (more detail later on the diary page if interested) rather than the cloth which I cannot match

It means that I have to do the whole interior , including the headlining (not in leather , I might add) so my request is:

Has anyone got photos of a leather-clad 2nd series car ?
Has anyone got photos of the headlining with the pull cord for the roller blind in place ?
Has anyone got any general 2nd series interior photos ?

Many thanks

There is a leather Aprilia interior shown on the splendid Ardea site- scroll down on this link: http://www.lancia-ardea.it/Interni.htm

This is a picture of a nice-looking restored interior showing rear window and blind, showing 3 cords but I know no more about the source: http://www.lanciaflavia.it/public_old_foto/3img-1259841428.jpg

There are photos of a nice-looking restored late Aprilia on the Brian Classic web site, with some good interior shots.

Buon lavoro!

Cesare

P.S. I would urge caution on the colour you eventually choose.

The Italian Wikipedia entry for the Aprilia says that the available colours for leather on a series 2 car are "marrone" and "rosso", brown and red, the same as for the series 1 Lusso. If this is right, the different colours found on series 1 leather in England are probably a frolic of Alperton, who would I think have  trimmed a lot of the cars in question.

The link to the Italian article is: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancia_Aprilia

And another thing, concerning matching your present cloth- you will see on the Ardea interiors page a number of fabrics, apparently to original specification, by a firm called Erreffe, who also have a website of their own, just in case you haven't discovered this firm during your own researches.

Cesare
Thank you very much (mille grazie !) - a great help. I had not seen the Ardea site before and it is excellent. I have been looking for an Ardea pickup for some time because they are great little cars !

The only problem now  is to find someone with an original headlining to copy because mine is quite different

Thanks again
Simon

You could take a trip to Forbello or the new Museum in Turin that have Aprilia....

Hi you can buy the material cloth from elvizo in Italy I have done one Appia, one Aurelia and one aprilia rooflining in the correct stuff they send samples out. You can do the seat too but it's expensive more than leather.
Brian Cates have just done a set of red leather for my aprilia with then a cloth rooflining it looks really nice and half the price.

my interior is original, the same as the photo from Cesare, (in fact I'd swear that's my car although i don't know how...).If further photo's can help I can lie upside down in the car in the garage and take some shots..... :)

Thank you both

Christo, indeed Brian has told me about the seats and headlining he has done for your car and I would love to see the finished results. Sounds lovely.

Mr Scarpia, I would be most obliged if you could take as many photos as possible of the headlining- it appears that there are longitudinal seams as well as transverse seams. With enough detail I am sure we can have a decent crack at reproducing something near original. My first Aprilia had the original headlining and the correct silk blind and I would love to recreate it ! I am trying to track down my old car as well - I believe Gerald Batt is the new owner of YRV 700.

By the way I am not offering to pay for the chiropractor !!

no problem,I'll avoid too many acrobatics.I'll take some photo's in the weekend if i can.
now i found my glasses i see the seats in car in the link below (that i thought were the same as my car) are recovered but the headlining looks the same. The ardea site is rather nice.trim looks very similar to the aprilia.
Who would of anticipated that having cars retrimmed in leather would turn out to be the economical option...

Thanks
Look forward to seeing them ! Have ordered the headlining material from the source suggested by Cesare above and the leather from Connolly's.
Trying to get my seats back to the UK at a sensible price for Brian Cates to get started on ....

Very helpful, thanks. I am going to try and make and fit it myself so the pics are a great help. Anyone got a nice Singer 211 for sale ?

Signor Scarpia,

on a minute point, the end of the pull on the cord for the rear blind on your car has what I would call a bead, and below it what looks like a ring. I presume the ring hooks on somewhere when the blind is up, and I would be grateful if you could tell me where.

Alternatively, if I have misread your photographs perhaps you would kindly tell me what is at the end of the pull, and what the arrangement is for securing the raised blind.

I am in the process of trying to improve the interior trim on my car, so the question is not wholly hypothetical.

Saluti

Cesare

The hook that the end of the rear sunblind attaches to when raised is between the front sunvisors (above the rear view mirror) you can see it in the photos if you know what you are looking for!

Oh that is a nice feature isn't it...

It is a lovely feature and why I would love to re-instate it ...

When I first had YRV in the early 80's,  people were more impressed by the roller blind mechanism than almost anything else.

Pillarless design, all round independent suspension, narrow angle V4, it counted for nothing, they just wanted to to try out the blind !

quite right Ade, the hook is just visible in the photo between the visors.

the hand pulls hanging down by the back windows are capable of moving through a radius of 90 ° against a spring resistance. For some reason I took them off and have replaced them the wrong way  because I wasn't paying attention.I'm sure they used to be horizontal pointing rearwards (and return to that position after use) and you pull them down to use them. Anyone know or am i just getting confused and forgetful?

Thank you gentlemen for the information on where and how the rear window blind pull attaches when raised.

Concerning handles above the rear doors, I have replacements on my series 1 car, but they look to be to original pattern, and the way they are mounted corresponds with a diagram that I have. They are in the form of a loop, and point rearwards horizontally, pulling down through ninety degrees when you want to use them. Thus they would seem to corroborate Scarpia's recollection of how his used to be.

If 2nd series ones act in the same way as 1st you are not having a senior moment!

Simon,
you may have noticed this yourself, but looking at the leather Aprilia interior on the Ardea website I have just noticed that it looks as if the piping abutting the doors on the roof side panels is done in leather rather than the roof material, which is quite a pleasing idea if it is original. This is the link:
