Title: 1600 hf colours
Post by: chugga boom on 27 January, 2013, 09:48:32 PM
trying to decide on a colour for my hf,  its origionally rosso york which i'm not the worlds greatest fan of, dont want to do it rosso corsa as most 1600 fulvia's are this colour even though i personally think they look fantastic in that colour, so what else is standard on these cars? just to help i've ruled out  so far
rosso corsa
rosso york
white
silver
logshomps bronze
any ideas?? saw a stunning dark blue 160 a few yrs ago at an agm restored by Chris Payne, dont know the colour though

Done mine in Ford Venetian red, as I am not a purist, and you can get the paint anywhere :o

Frank i have no idea what the colour was, Roger if i was going red then i would do the same as its far easier to match however i've dismissed red alltogether, looks fantastic and imo is probably the best colour for a hf but you know me, i want to be different  :D

Not normally my favourite colour for a car, and I know you've discounted it but Fulvia's definitely look best in White. I had a beauty, wish I hadn't sold it!

Agreed, all the colours i've dismissed look good on fulvia's however i'm trying to do it something a little different, one of my favourite s3 colours is portifino blue however this was nota 1600 option (to my knowlage) i was just curious if anyone had a colour chart/brochure for the 1.6's as i only have for the 1.3

If your not worried about original colour have a look at Doncaster Grey of my 2c Berlina, dark but not a blue and it's a very nice colour, although I don't think it was used on Coupe.

Why stick to one colour ?

Go nautical and have the left side red and the right green
Go safari - black and white stripes
Go Dudsey - spots
Recreate the Fulvia model - gold and black with painted on snow and spare tyre and ski sticks on the roof ......

How about Nero??

if you're a metaller, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden fame had a black Fanalone.

Hello
Can someone answer a question that has long puzzled me. I bought my 1972 Fulvia Coupe via Italy. The paintwork looked largely original but had a laquer coat. Looking at Neil's chart, does it say that Lancia Bleu is available with a laquer coat at an additional cost .If this is the case, then that is the colour my car was painted.I always thought that Lancia Bleu was a solid colour.
I had the car repainted here in France about 3 years ago and found that Dupont Baltic/Twighlight Blue was an exact match. The sprayer wanted to use solvent based paint but I could not find anyone here to supply it, only water based. I was able to source the solvent based paint together with the laquer, hardener etc. in the UK, at approx. 40% less than French prices. Only wish I had bought all the consumables in the UK as well.
Regards
Tim

Is it rosso san siro the competition orange red??

If so Lechler 192 or Lesonal (LS) 10259Z

A good paint shop should be able to mix.

Black is a rare colour for Fulvias, especially HFs.
Here's one taken circa 1982.

So, that's narrowed it down then!

I'm getting addicted to this bloody forum. Told myself I wasn't going to add to my sole Lancia, having recently sold my 8.32. Now I'm on the lookout....again!!

Anyone know anything about this : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LANCIA-BETA-1600-Unique-Original-Series-1-Berlina-/290853028244?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item43b8310194

Looks a stunner, never thought I'd be interested, but......

If one looks at the 2nd photo, then zoom in on the driver, no doubt he will be recognisable to many of us on here and in the LMC. ;)
Lot of money, but it comes from an excellent stable and is in excellent condition.

Robin,this from Ed:

My color is part of the Ypsilon "Kaleidos" program from the late '90s. Officially, that orange "Orange", factory code 911. So Glasurit's color code is "LAN 911". I'm sure other manufacturers have the equivalent color, but mine was sprayed with Glasurit 'Line 22' single-stage.

Looks quite amazing from the photos and with a well known owner, I guess the quality of the write up and car can be assessed. Price wise, as it is likely to be unique in terms of a UK Series 1, mileage and condition, then it is whatever someone is prepared to pay I guess. Normal s2 saloons go for around the £2-£3k in decent condition if you can find one.....

after doing some more diggin, pretty sure the colour is rosso corsa, but not rosso corsa like the integrale red, according to my paint surplier there are 3 paint codes for rosso corsa that all ran 1971>75 they are 172 178 179, there are no colour chips or mixing formulars available so i was wondering if anyone had some origional paint mixing chips of the era that i can match the colour too, i can only discribe the colour on this car as like vw mars red that mk1 golfs were painted in or ford sunburst red that mk3 xr3's were painted in, its not orange and its not red, its inbetween, any help grately appriciated

My Aurelia was matched to Ford Sunburst Red - and after a long time pondering the original blue and period reds and all sorts of modern reds I went with the same again and was delighted with it.  My only complication was that I then had to choose between three tints.  Do they do that to allow for matching to a faded paint?

If I had a bare shell Fulvia I think that is one of my favourite combinations - the dark red with the Torino stripes and blue and yellow HF stickers. It's kind of subdued but a bit menacing at the same time. That's if I wanted to have some Lancia connection. If not, I reckon Aston Zagato metallic racing green would be very tempting. When mine was painted several years ago I went with the colour it already was, Rosso Corsa, as it wasn't a full spray and I didn't want to open the bonnet and see a different coloured engine bay. I must admit it must be hard to have a bare shell and thousands of beautiful colours to choose from. The great thing about Fulvias is that you can paint them grey, blue etc and they look elegant and you can drive them wearing a suit and tie, or you can go for reds, oranges etc and they look like rally cars. You'll have to decide what look you want and that will narrow it down to just a few thousand!. I would think Ferrari Giallo Fly yellow might look pretty good especially if you are having it bumperless etc.

What a coincidence with Stan's comments about Aston Martin.
Earlier this week I was talking to a guy in the UK who is restoring a 1600HF and it is soon going to the paint shop. His car is currently painted metallic green which he describes as being from the BMW 2002 series and he is undecided as to which colour to have it resprayed. He likes the green but the car was originally white. Also his Dad had a 1600HF in Mendoza Blue. Decisions, decisions.

Stan's mention of Ferrari Giallo Fly yellow reminded me of my ex-works 1.3HF which was just that colour when I first saw it. Pye Records had been using it for publicity purposes and had had it sprayed thus. I talked the vendor into painting it Rosso Corsa as part of the deal. Not a bad deal at £750 including the re-paint eh?! Ah..... those were the days. :)

It was interesting on the Fulvia Knights Rally last year that the Dutch and Belgians went for subdued blues and greys. To the point where Rosso Corsa brought the reaction "Ah, the English colour!".

I want the maroon in the last photo really , saw a 1.2or 1.3 HF in Turin in this colour, pretty sure it was a Dutch car and just fell in love with it, looked absolutely stunning, its not as brown as rosso York so if anyone can help with the colour name or paint code I'd be very grateful  :)

That would be a great choice I think. Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't have gone with it and lived with a Rosso Corsa engine bay! Although I did discover when I was scraping old sound deadener off the rear floor that the original colour was a light metallic blue. I wouldn't think it will be difficult to find that code with the knowledge on this site - it seems to be the standard 1.3HF dark red I've seen on others, more often than not with the stripes. Not sure if it might be listed somewhere like Huib's Viva Lancia site? Good luck.

A couple more colour charts for HFs attached from 1970 and 1971.

The dark red used on some Flavia and Fulvia cars was Arcoveggio although only seems to appear on a Flavia Zagato colour chart from 1964 or thereabouts so may not have been a production colour for very long. Picture of Flavia Sport prototipo in what is believed to be Arcoveggio attached for info.

Low geared, unrefined, terrible ground clearance, flat unsupportive seats - what's more the rear windows are nothing like weird enough.

I'm looking forward to seeing the ex-Mark Hoble racing car (before him Richard Thorne's rally car) out to play again after its time with Omicron.
