Title: A perfect 'day out' in ?
Post by: chriswgawne on 09 September, 2012, 08:08:22 AM
Apropos the recent posts regarding Italian car museums etc, my personal choices for a perfect 'day out' in Italy are the following (not in any particular order):
1. The Mille Miglia museum in Brescia. Beautiful buildings, well laid a out and a lot of Italian Social history included - not just cars. So something for everyone. Also a decent cup of coffee.
2. The Panini Maserati collection at El Hombre near Modena. This is a private museum on a farm owned by the family where they make superb organic  Parmigiano Reggiano. Again not just all about cars and if you catch the senior Sig Panini he is charming.
3. The Ducati factory tour and m/cycle collection in Bologna is worth a visit. Needs to be pre-booked I recall but fascinating to see the Ducati engines being built from a kit of parts by a team of women.
4. And lastly but sadly no longer available is the factory visit and small museum of De Tomaso in Modena. They always made us very welcome but now the factory is empty - I stumbled across it a couple of months ago and no trace whatsoever of the De Tomaso name. And what a lot of cars came out of what is a small factory.
