Title: Never underestimate the importance of girly TV series!
Post by: Julia on 17 November, 2011, 11:10:36 AM
Flaminia Touring AND Fulvia berlina on the BBC2 last night (Pan Am - American TV series set in the 1960s).

Could not believe my eyes!

I love the colours.  Was the show any good?

I spotted those as well. But I thought it was Flavia Berlina.  :-\ If it's a Fulvia, and looking at the photo now it certainly looks like it,  then it's wrong as the show is set in 1961 and the Fulvia was introduced in 1963.

The show wasn't bad (if you like that sort of thing).

Wasn't there an Aurelia in the shot before too?

(Wasn't watching it - honest - my wife was  ::))

The storyline starts in 1963, according to the makers of the series.

I missed that bit  :-\ I assumed it was 1961 due to the Bay of Pigs references  :-\ I shall consider myself wrong in my assumptions and now corrected  ;D Thank you  ;)

Ahh - but if I was being a pedant (perish the thought) it is still wrong, as the colour of the 500 (Positano Yellow) didn't come out until 1969 (I think) and both the 500s are wrong because in 1963 they still had the older 500 "D" bodyshell. The later 500 "F" bodyshell (with the front hinged doors)didn't come out until 1965.....

Still, fun to see them in shot notheless!

Andy

You are, of course, right Andy  :D I missed that completely  :-[  If anyone wants to know more about the Fiat 500, have a look at http://fiatmotorclubgb1.netfirms.com/Cars/500.htm (http://fiatmotorclubgb1.netfirms.com/Cars/500.htm)

I admit to watching it but apart from those few seconds I was dissapointed and don't think I will bother watching anymore, maybe because I remember flying on a 707 although I never saw 1st class!!

More of what my sister saw (did I mention that I don't watch this show myself?)

So in what years and market were dual wing mirrors fitted to Series 1 Fulvias?

She also suggests that Oireland might be a few weeks ahead of the UK in episodes but that the moving version of this Fulvia can be seen here:

Its at about 27mins 10seconds apparently

Wow, guys! I think it's safe to say that I know what everyone will be watching from now on (apart from Alan, of course!)  ;D

The orange one turned out to be a Giulietta upon closer inspection.

Like it or not, we are in many respects anoraks... and spotting their subject, whatever it may be, on film is part and parcel of the anorak identikit.

We are enthusiasts.....Lancisti surely....not anoraks, that means having a screw loose!!

Certainly doesn't worry me!

Do you really mean anorak?  Or is it a parker, cagoul, wind cheater, bomber, ski blouse, walking jacket, blouson...?

For me I'll settle for "unrepentant geek".  For others I particularly like "cognoscente" and "aficionado".

We are of course, as we see ourselves, Lancisti and enthusiasts but what I believe Brian was referring to was how we may be seen by others.

However our self-awareness in this regard probably makes lit less likely that we actually are anoraks

p.s. Behold, the recent post of HF Dave, Latter Day Irish Prophet, who foresaw this discussion in a recent vision:

Ireland is ahead with the series, my wife called me in to see a Fulvia sedan in Lancia blue on the programme this evening. It's a great way to justify to your wife why I have all those classic Lancias. Because they were the best in their Day !!!  :D

Fairly sure the whole series is shot in the US with lookalike locations and cgi, but they've certainly pulled out the stops on the classic cars!

I can see I will have to catch up with the Beeb's iplayer, having missed all up to now.
Consequently, I don't know if the following was revealed. I very much doubt it.
Episode 3 is entitled "Ich bin ein Berliner".
This famous phrase caused some amusement at the time in Berlin, due to JFK's pronunciation of the word "Berliner".
To a genuine Berliner, his word referred to a type of doughnut consumed in that City.
So what he said to Berliner's ears was "I am a doughnut".
The next time you see that particular speech from newsreel, listen. Are they cheering or laughing?

Yes there was a comment about that in the episode  ;D
