Title: Dedra service parts required
Post by: Ed. on 02 November, 2011, 02:23:23 PM
New member 1st post

Have a 92 Dedra and have to change the belts/waterpump before it goes back on the road. Problem being my local motor factors have it on their system, but cant get it in, and Fiat want almost €180 for the pump. Is there anywhere in the UK who can get genuine or generic ones in. Ive looked at the likes of Eurocarparts but they are out of stock.

I am aware there are 2 types of pump as 1992 Dedras are in a 'crossover' year, so dont want to spend ages waiting on a pump to find its the wrong one! The last 4 digits of the chassis number are 2979, but can provide the full number if required

TIA

Welcome tro the fold Ed, Is your car a cat or non-cat. Some of the Themas were Cat fitted in 1992. :)

Cat or non-cat might help determine which type of water pump . :)

Shouldn't need to climb underneath as you should be able to see if it has a Lambda Sensor on the front pipe section from under the bonnet.

Don't forget to mark up the belts before removal, bring the timing to TDC and tippex everything.  :) Thanks, david.

Is the balancing shaft timed on the 1.8 engine?

Ed, the balance shaft has to be timed, there are timing marks on the pullys. if you dont time them properly the engine will be out of balance. thanks . David  :)

Hi Ed,
Be nice to know another will make it back on to the road as they're certainly few and far between these days, if you need access to the manuals drop me an email.

Looks like a timing belt kit and perhaps a water pump to me Ed? You probably ordered them a while ago and forgot about it. There may be something earlier in this thread that can shed light on it ....

Hi Ed, Does it say whatother engines the water pump fits. I see from the belt box that they fit the 16v as well. Thanks. David. :)

The box on the left (5080) is the correct belt for RHD Dedra twin cams.
The box on the right (5620XS) which shows 16v refers to Dedra models that were only ever built in LHD and didn't come into effect until the 1994 facelift after RHD ceased.
Apart from integrale all the Delta's listed are 2nd series Delta and they were LHD only as well.
Having just looked at eper the OEM belts also carried different numbers for the 8v and 16v and on my 16v Themas the cam belt was considerably narrower than the Dedra 8v belts.

Water pump part numbers also differ as on ePER.

Now the evenings are longer, time to launch a fresh attack

Waterpump -on

Timing belt on, but not yet fully tensioned, a stud broke on the bottom pulley and my dads stud extractor was not co-operating!

Would it not have been an idea to clean the scale from the pulleys before fitting, you could run the risk of damaging the belt.
