Title: Le Mans Series.
Post by: rikardo on 07 September, 2011, 05:03:46 PM
9th - 11th September (race-day being Sunday 11th September) will see the premier Sportscar series return to Silverstone for the 6 hours/1000 klms race.
I also see that several cars that have competed at this event from 1976 to the present will be in attendance.

Perhaps even better is the one hour endurance race on Saturday for classic sports cars. My magazine will be in attendance to report.

If you didn't watch or go (there was of course AutoItalia at Gaydon up the road), then you may be heartened to know that an Italian car and team won their class and this year's GTE Pro Class Championship, namely the number 51 Ferrari F458 Italia of AF Corse driven by Giancarlo Fisichella (yes indeed) and Gianmaria Bruni. They received a rousing cheer when accepting their trophy on the podium.
Full details of the race results at the Le Mans Series web-site link.

I did enjoy the variety of exhaust notes from the varied engine configurations. And boy were some of them loud! Fabulous! Except the diesels of course, which were almost silent in comparison.

The final round of this year's championship was held yesterday (Sunday 25th September) at Estoril, Portugal.
As there were no Audis or Peugeots (see below), there was no live streaming.
Here is a brief report from the web-site.

This Saturday (1st October) sees the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and the American Le Mans Series together at Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta, USA.
Expect plenty of live streaming from various sources, as both Audi and Peugeot are entered.
