Title: Aprilia on eBay
Post by: stuwilson128 on 24 May, 2011, 06:26:44 PM
I have had an email from somebody asking if anybody knows anything of the Aprilia currently for sale on eBay.  It looks like it will take a lot of work to get back on the road.  Possibly one for Chugga?!

If Chugga or someone similarly endowed with magical metal powers doesn't take it on to restore, this car looks like it would provide the parts I need to get my '37 (38-1427) back on the road.  I wonder how much it will go for...

well i wont be going after it , too many irons in the fire already, temptation is there but i will resist, looks as if it would be a good doner or possible resto project though, last one i bought in similar condition approx 5 yrs ago i paid £750 for it

This is so interesting, I am definitely not up for it, too much else on the go, but from the photographs it looks capable of being restored. Jim wasn't deterred by what he saw but agrees definitely not for me at the moment.

Good luck to anyone who is successful, a great project for a brave person !!!!

Looks pretty good to me, it's all there and not too badly rusted.  Only £310 to date with 11 bids so it looks as if it might be saved.  I notice some pretty boring and primitive stuff in the background (Riley 9 and such things).

Now 15 bids and up to £510, if you look at his other items, he has a newly built Brooklands Special Riley 9 boatail body and chassis for sale but requires a Riley 9, perhaps he's after offers on the Riley 9 that David spotted in the yard?

Winning bid £1825 !!! Makes Chugga's £750 five years ago look like a snip !!!!

Let's hope that it has been bought by someone for a serious restoration or, at the least, as a donor for an imminent project ..... were you in there William ?

Good luck to whoever was determined enough to be successful and let's hope we get some news of it on the Forum.

Sounds a bit of a bargain to me! Was tempted (for 5 seconds...).

I was tempted....but restraint prevailed.

From what I heard the car was too far gone to be restorable.  It does have several bits I need, but I'm hoping that the person who bought it will sell them to me!

I went and looked at this car and can assure all those who were tempted  that they have had alucky escape. There was no way it was restorable as the back end had completely rotted away. The only decent bit of bodywork was the roof!

The good(?) bits were the headlamp glasses--dished carellos'--- the Webber carb., and the instruments. All the main units such as engine gearbox and axles would need to be overhauled before being installed elsewhere.

In my view the bidding would never have got so high if the bidders had been to look at the car!!!

Considering the value of Aprilias these days, it wasn't such a bad buy - just for the spare parts. I'd willingly pay that much for an Augusta in a similar state.

So, will you now put the tree modified Aprilia on eBay, Ben?   Must be worth a grand!  (please post a photo for those who don't know).
