Title: Fuel Filler Neck Questions
Post by: ah_sprite on 16 May, 2011, 05:39:49 PM
Hi all
My 75 S3 Coupe has sprung a leak at the bottom of the filler neck, where the neck meets the tank.

Can somebody please explain to me how the system seals at the bottom there, before I take it all apart?

Many thanks!
Richard

There should be a square section seal there. I had a batch made up not so long ago, I will see if I have any left.

Many thanks for the replies. Phil, I sent you an email the other day, did you get it? Would be very interested in a seal if you have any. My car hasn't moved for 15 years so there won't be much left of the one I've got!

Richard

I did get your mail, just need to check a few potential hide outs for the seal this weekend.

The large seal inside the main cylinder of the front S2 brake caliper is a perfect fit for the filler neck. Even if this kind of brake seal is not specificxally designed for petrol, on my cars it has lasted for many years without any leak. Note that it is difficult to seal the filler neck with any o-ring and flat gasket. Good luck, Andrea
