Anyone taking any bets on how much fuel will cost by mid summer? My money is on £1.50 per litre for unleaded petrol (more for the super I feed to the Beta!). All in all very bad news for the hobby we all love. I try to aim for two club events a year, but this might well be affected by how much petrol costs come summer. Fuel costs didn't even come into the equation up until a couple of years ago.
I think LMC events might be hit disproportionately because we are so polarized with plenty of action in the South, West, North East & Scotland but pretty much nothing elsewhere. I'm going to the GNW in a couple of weeks but even that is a fair old hike from West Yorkshire (though hats off to those of you coming from all corners).
Can't really see where this is going other than there being a proper world recession and oil prices taking another big dive? I particularly can't see the government cutting road fuel duty as some are asking for.

It can go one of two ways and the future stabilisation in the price of oil depends on American and European combined intervention. If major suppliers, Saudi and Iran get drawn into the 'Berlin Wall' analogy currently taking place the West will suffer as oil supply is further threatened. To this can be added speculation where individuals invest in rising prices and store, then release on a falling market. In my view either America, with the help of the European Union step in and wave the big stick or stay away completely. Fuel at current prices could, in twelve months time seem cheap. Of course, if you are a green thinking person you will hope for 200 dollars a barrel, resulting in less car journeys, reduced Co2 etc and so on. Regarding LMC events, continued disruption may add £30/50 to a weekend in fuel, but other associated costs such as hotels charges may fall. Its not the end of the world.

At around 5miles / litre and £1.50 per litre it's easy to work things out. It means that (say) Brooklands (220 miles) is going to cost around £66 in fuel.

So my usual 'test' run of may cost around £6.

It's not the end of the world , but it is something to consider. However, I can always half the fuel bills by going with someone else :o)

This is very of the moment. I was thinking of buying a car in Devon but going all that way from Colchester has put me off!!!.

I wanted to drive to Geneva, approx 1200 mile from home and back at 42mpg and approx £18 per hundred miles so £200 plus ferry etc. Flight from East Midland return £106, distance from home forty six miles and car parking for three days £13.99. Show entrance direct from airport terminal. Im flying!
