Title: Flock channel
Post by: rodney3010 on 04 March, 2010, 08:39:13 PM
Can anyone recommend a product to stick flock channel into the window channel? I was thinking probably sikaflex but interested to know if anyone has anything tried and tested?

I have always used a good quality contact adhesive such as Evo-Stick.

I used a high modulus silicone from a plumbers merchant.

It all may depend on how permanent you want the channel felt to remain, or how difficult you want it to be to remove, but I use Sikaflex 221 quite liberally - it would obviously form a good surface sealant on the metal too.   You can feather the edges to form a good waterproof seal to reduce the moisture getting in behind the felt body.

I used a Bostik clear glue and holt melt gun, but you have to be quick before the glue hardens, probably not as easy or as tidy as some of the other methods suggested, real question is, has anyone ever got the tiny screws that the original was held on with, back in the same holes, and if so how? or does everyone in sheer frustration give up trying to screw the channel back on, and stick them back on instead. ::)

P.S.   I must admit I thought the original question referred to the fitting the felt into the U channel running vertically in the doors.   However, I also used Sikaflex in fixing the felt medium to the horizontal outer and inner door capings.   ie anything to avoid using screws and starting the rusting process from day one, again (sorry Brian!)

Regards

Hi Roddy,
you are probably right, but I've not tackled  the felt running vertically, only where the drop glass runs.
