Title: Cabriolet - where is this one now?
Post by: adrian donovan on 13 December, 2009, 08:25:16 PM
I took these photo's in York in the late 1980's. The car was the subject of a bank lending scam ( sound familiar?). A bank had lent £30,000 against the car, but David Baker, then LMC Secretary was later called in to provide a valuation, and suggested a figure of £1,000 was more realistic. This was 20 years ago, and Cabrio's didn't raise the level of excitement they do now. The car clearly needed a lot of work and I seem to remember that it didn't have the original engine. Does anyone recognise it, or the story?

I wonder if it is the one for sale at Smiths-veglia in Holland as that car was English registered and is also missing the 'eyebrows' above the front side air intakes??  http://www.classicargarage.com/english/garages/smiths/frame/frame2.htm

It does look similar - the front grilles seem to have more variations than the other features....have they sold it yet??

I do not think it is the cabriolet that has been advertised (for a very long time) by Smith-Veglia.
The dutch car is of the early series, with the small boot, while on the photo one clearly sees the bigger boot of the later cars, same as Ade's.
Here is an early car, as a comparison. Look at the region between rear wings and boot lid.

Sebastien -
Could an article on the B50 variations be forthcoming?

When I first looked at the photo I thought it did have the early boot, but cross checking now I can see it is the later one like mine (There's not much in it!). The more B50 Cabriolets I look at the less it seems that there are any that are identical to each other!
