Title: National rally - some pics
Post by: Harvey on 13 July, 2009, 08:39:27 AM
I'll get round to writing up when I have some time in the next few days, but here are some pics as a taster of the weekend.

That's Richard Crompton modelling Gerald Batt's Lancia bike - quite a marvel of engineering when you get to see it in detail.

Gents (and Chris),

I wont be the only one but maybe I can be the first to say thanks for your efforts. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, the kids had a great time and I was able to catch up with some who I have met over the years, and many who have been until now names on the forum. Some super cars and the seating plan with me next to Win Oude Weernink was a stroke of genius ! And hopefully through a contact made I am a step nearer solving my rocker shaft problem.

The only thing left to say is fingers crossed for Robin and that the following days bring a solution for his Dilambda.

Cheers
Neil and family

PS For those who missed Lee and I on BBC Radio Shropshire it can be found for a short period here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p003n5s1/Eric_Smith_Saturday_Breakfast_11_07_2009/) around the 37 minute mark after the Eurythmics.

My agent says I have a face for radio but doesn't foresee a great future  ;D

Yep, same goes for us ... a wonderful weekend and thanks to Lee, Maggie, Chris and Harvey.
Great to see all the kids playing on the front lawn in the sunshine !
Also good to put more names to faces on the forum.

From my point of view, it was a relief to get there at all, with daughter dearest struck down with the chuck ups on Friday!  Several really big positives for me.  Firstly the number of families and children - we designed the event, and especially the Giro to make it attractive for families and it worked.  This is surely something we need to remember for future AGMs - like others, I thought it great to see a venue full of happy kids playing (and being absolutely wonderfully well behaved most of the time) and consequently lots of happy, relaxed parents.  Second, the realisation for Lee and I that this has moved the Giro (even as a stand alone event next year) up to a whole new level - it will never be 10-12 cars again, I imagine...  Thirdly, just great to see everyone having a good time - the venue was fine (alright, speed of service wasn't the best, but the food and location were top notch), and everyone seemed to have a ball exploring Shropshire (I imagine many will be back again).  Finally, just great to meet so many people - new friends and old - I've lost touch with how many people I met, and how many good conversations I had.  It was as Harvey set out on the website, a social event with cars, not a car event with socialising - and a lot of people beyond the hard core Lancisti had a lot of fun as a consequence!

Thanks Harvey/Chris Lee Et all,

What a wonderful AGM, just would like to re-iterate what Chris said regarding the family atmosphere, this is the way forward for the club, I think everyone young and old had a marellous time, our children are sad they came home.
Back to the cars, what a brilliant turn out, its nice to see so many Lancias in such wonderful condition compared to say how they were 10-15 years ago when there was a lot of tat. No doubt someone will find time to have a niggle but well done- great routes, plenty to see and do and a great venue!

Hear hear.....

Restored my faith in LMC AGM's (only been to one before!).

Well done chaps and chappettes for great weekend and some positive regard from the committee to make the formal stuff also entertaining. One highlight was Jack's monologue at the end of the AGM. Passion or what!!

Sandwiched between the Eurythmics and Bryan Adams! A nice segment - sorry for missing it first time round but I was too tired to work the radio.

Yes, well done to all involved.

Only came down for the Sunday, it's an hours drive from home and the wife, kids and mother in law came along. Even despite that I had a really good time  ;)

I really enjoyed the gathering yesterday and agree with all the positive comments that members have made. I was pleased to meet up with many old friends (too many to list) and to put faces to names I know best through the forum. The latter include Lee Proudfoot, Steve Pilgrim, Neil Cundy, Roger Elias, Stuart Wilson and Guy McDougal (all the way from the RSA). What a wonderful thing the forum is! A 350 mile round trip and well worth it.

As to the AGM itself, I kept my promise and didn’t raise my usual grouse about the need for better communications between to committee and the membership. But I was sorely tempted! I have to say that of all the AGMs I have attended this one was the shortest and the most devoid of real content!

I wonder - is it that the LMC is such a well oiled and perfect machine that it can hold itself together and make progress in apparent silence, or is just running downhill with an empty tank and the engine in neutral? Time will tell.

Colin

We would also like to say a big thankyou to EVERYONE involved in the organising and running of this years National RallyAGM/Giro.Special mention to Harvey, Chris and Lee, great event.

We have been members for 11 years and only missed one AGM in that time and we think this one has to be one of the best.
Great setting both hotel and area, fantastic quiet roads(well done Chris) and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Enjoyed the Gala dinner and
guest speaker also, the period Delta advertising films were fun, how our expectations of luxury 'extras' have changed!

If time/finances allow spending the whole weekend really is the best way to enjoy the AGM, we have made so many friends (and continue to do so) over the years. It takes us a good half an hour to say goodbye to everyone!

We are already looking forward to next years Giro and of course wherever the AGM will be held. This years event is going to take some beating.

Steve, Margaret and Emma

Mysteriously, the first version of this post (typed yesterday) disappeared somewhere into the ether never to be seen again, so...here goes again. I wanted to say a big thank you to all members that attended and made the event a success and more personally to everyone that volunteered a hour (or more) of their time to help with meet & greeting and car park duties.

The new members of the Brethren (and Mistresses) of the Order of the Hi-Vis Tabard are:

Emma Gales
Harvey
Andy Collins
Simon Davis
Chris Hopkins
Steve Pilgrim
Maggie (in between her excellent photographic duties)
and last but by no means least Peter Bristow, who stepped up to the mark despite this being his first LMC event, from which he took home 2 concours awards for his uber-Gamma.

I hope we managed to get everyone in as quickly and hassle-free as possible. It was a bit of a challenge in the Reception-side car park at one point, further complicated by the non-LMC residents (that Honda Jazz in particular  ::)). I was really pleased that the Masterclass Hill (thanks Carlos) worked.

A big thank you should also go to Chris who did a mammoth, sterling effort on the Giro routes, Neil Cundy for getting early on Saturday to speak to BBC Radio Shropshire about the Aurelia, and Harvey and Sue Rowlandson for doing the majority of the planning, hotel liasion and organisation for the weekend.

I would like to echo all of the comments made so far.  I had a fantastic time and enjoyed meeting up with so many friends, as well as making some new ones.  The route I chose to do on the Saturday was supurb with some stunning scenery (second only to my beloved Lake District!).  I was impressed with the turnout of cars on Sunday, all of them to such high quality.  Thank you Chris, Lee, Harvey and Sue for all of your hard work in making the weekend a resounding success.

I wonder - is it that the LMC is such a well oiled and perfect machine that it can hold itself together and make progress in apparent silence, or is just running downhill with an empty tank and the engine in neutral?

Maybe the latter, but it's a long hill and we can manage some frightening momentum!

Don't give up raising the question, though - people will worry for you if you abstain from commenting next year, too.  :)

Just listened in to the radio clip.  Is anyone clever enough to rip that into something permanent, an mp3 file or something?  Given Jack's passion about holding onto our history, I think we should try and save that for posterity.  I'm already getting nostalgic - what a weekend, even though I only made half of it.  Lee, we've got some work to do to top this...

I'm e-mailing BBC Shropshire right now to ask if we can have the clip.

Chris, I have a copy of the clip, recorded manually (ie by placing my voice recorder next to the speaker).

If you can rip it - use this encoder to change it to any format you wish.  Excellent piece of software!

Some lovely pictures here of most of the cars I looked at with awe at the AGM on Sunday - thanks. Let me add two bits of detail - one is of the instrument panel of Neale Shepherd’s Fulvia Sport Competitzione and the other is the super-charger on John Millham’s Augusta. Such rare and exotic stuff to be found in rural England if you happened to be there to see it.

I only got around to looking at the photos today, and haven't even looked at the ones I took myself!

Steve Gales - another lovely chap (almost as lovely as Margaret) - a lovely family - lovely pics.

Thanks everyone who had a hand in organising the AGM and Giro.

It's hard to believe it's a week ago since we boarded the plane to come home.  :'(
