Title: Thema Window Motors

Oops I did it again!

I bought a Thema 16V ie Turbo last week, and am trying to sort out the window winders.

a) Are there any new microswitches available, or can these be repaired?

b) How many tiny (recirculating?) ball bearings should there be around the spiral shaft?  ???

c) Any smart tricks for re-assembly?   ::)

Join the TDC. Enough window switches, motors etc to fill a transit. And save yourself the hassle and just swap a door - enough of those to fill a small lorry......

I have been readiing your 'rants' in the TDC journal for a few years now, no doubt why I bought a Thema?

Now there's just the small matter of getting the parts to Africa without them being stolen...   :o

Don't even send them by Royal Mail 'to sign for'.

Either send by UPS or similar courier service or your UK relatives for collection next time one's in the Old Country.

(Harvey are you insinuating the Thema's akin to a T54?  ;D)

Looking again through the aperture, I can't help but think, hope, or imagine that there must be Alfa parts (shock, horror) that would do the job?  These are much more plentiful down here in Africa...

Then again, back in the Lancia fold, cognoscenti are asking if my 16V ie Turbo is a 2nd or 3rd series.

Can anyone advise please?  The Engine is an 834C1.000 Version 834AC54A.  Spares # is 0229799.

Can you let me have the Chassis number as well please, and any parts you are after, so I can see if there are compatible parts within the Fiat Empire.
I'll then check up on eper and let you know.

Many thanks Brian, you're gentleman and a scholar.

Chassis No. is ZLA 834000*00223483.

I have a copy of the ePer disk somewhere, but couldn't find it before the rush to get to work this morning!

Self-help using systems like these is a must if one wants to get anywhere, as the computerised 'spares jockeys' these days are not all that helpful as they have no personal knowledge of parts and where they are used.

The TDC guys have been stellar at offering to help so far, but here's what I need:

2 x number plate light lenses.
1 x RHS fog lamp for front spoiler.
1 x door reflector.
4 x electric window switches (preferably new)
1 x LHS front window winder motor and brackets.
1 x original Thema radio aerial (fitted on LHS rear fender near boot)
1 x Thema toolkit.
1 x plastic radiator header tank and lid? (preferrably new)

What are the odds on some new headlamps and front indicators?

A bit of topic but you may find this amusing....

I used to have a late '94 Thema Turbo. The window mechanism broke on mine (in about 2003) and I went to the local FIAT center of expertise (if ever there was an oxymoron........). First off I was told that Fiat had stopped making Lancias so parts were unavailable. So I convinced them that that wasn't the case and that I was sure parts were still available. Chap then says he hasn't got a Lancia disc but he can look on an Alfa one (probably the same part on a 166) but he needs my chassis number. OK, so I go and get my chassis number and watch him put it into an Alfa database. " it doesn't recognise the chassis number" he says. "No s..t Sherlock" says I. "never mind I will take a chance on a 166 item" says I, "I can't take the order because the Alfa database doesn't recognise your Lancia chassis number". We play ping pong with this for a liitle while with no resolution.

So far this pantomime had taken about 15 minutes.Tempers getting a bit frayed now, when a saviour appears.............THE MANAGER. "Ah, a Thema.....lovely cars. Whats the problem?" So I explain where we have got to and he say "I've got a Thema disc somewhere". Of he goes and comes back, starts it up and puts the chassis number in, but still no recognition. "Probably an out of date disc, never mind, we'll find the part - what model Thema is it ?"
"It's a '94 16V Turbo LS"
" A Turbo sir ?, oh, they never made a Turbo sir......did you modify it yourself, I need to know what it was before it was converted to get the correct part?"
I screamed and left. I got the parts from the TDC.
Possibly the biggest waste of 30 minutes of my life I have ever had. And believe me things have not improved at that dealership since.

That's my experience too Neil.

I took a sample of my VX fuel cap to our local Fiat dealership, only to be asked, "What car is that from?"

"An Alfa", I lied.

"Which model?", he asked nonchalantly.

"Dunno, you tell me, you work here."  Scene ends.  >:(

Since then I don't even mention the word Lancia, but armed with the correct part number, miracles can still happen:

A while after the fuel cap episode I was told I had to buy a complete Uno Turbo oil dipstick just to get the rubber seal around the dipstick neck, - the same as used on all Betas and Montes.  Armed with the part number (and standing behind the parts desk pointing over the jockey's shoulder at the computer terminal!), I bought six rubber seals for around 8!  ;D

I found my ePER disk last night and spent some time browsing.  This facility is invaluable for anyone who owns anything from a Y10 to a Thesis.  Get yours now!

Mine is a type SZ 104 (1998-1992).

I'm checking eper against your list and getting the part numbers and checking to see if any usage on other Fiat Group cars, do you still want me to do so as you have your eper up & running?

What version do you have?

Results so far.

number plate lights 82438636 also fitted to Fiat Croma 1990-1996. & Fiat Coupe 1994-2000
also shown is 82446596 used for Austria And Switzerland but I don't know what the difference is.
Fog Lamp 82444925 used Lancia Only.

Door Reflector 82405994 Lancia Only.

Window SwitchesLancia Only

Front Twin Switch 176602180 (GS).

Front Single Switch 176602380  also shown is C9742 (haven't looked this up yet).

Rear RH Switch 176602380.

Rear LH Switch 176603180.

My ePER is version 2.1.0 whch is probably old, but it's all I've been able to get down here so far.

For the benefit of Lancia 'fogeys' it's interesting to note that there are so few parts common with Alfa and Fiat. ;D

Yesterday I tried giving a Lancia part number to a local Fiat dealership whose first response was, "The part number is wrong."  ::)

But without any further prompting, a more enterprising spares jock came back later acknowledging it was a Lancia window winder mechanism.  Only problem is it's not 'activated' on their system.  I then sent him my chassis number, and today my request has been sent to Fiat Auto South Africa.  I've been trying in vain for the past four years to get them organised so we can buy Lancia spares through them (at one stage they shared a warehouse with Nissan which accounted for part of the problem), and two days ago I left a message for their CEO.  Watch this space...

Our good mutual friend Jack Joubert (he of Dedra fame), has some of the parts I need, and I'm seeing him this Sunday.
