Title: Appia Vignale Gearbox Oil Leak
Post by: MisterNick on 27 September, 2021, 11:51:22 AM
Hi all

I wondered whether anybody had any experience of this, and tried the solution in the article in the 2013 Appia Consortium Newsletter.

The engine and gearbox from our S3 Vignale are on a frame and we thought we had cleared any water / oil leaks, until the gearbox started dripping. The shaft is with a precision engineer and we have the seal ready to fit. We are not sure on the kitchen roll solution, and are thinking of fitting a tray on the plate with a feed pipe back to the gearbox. If not possible, some sort of catch box which could be emptied periodically.

As I say we would welcome any experiences, thoughts, suggestions.

Nick

Are you sure the gearbox is able to breath. The oil filler/dipstick has a vent generally. Is this blocked as it would force oil out through path of least resistance....
