Title: Coupe sun-visors
Post by: simonpen on 05 August, 2021, 06:47:06 PM
My car has a roof lining but no sun-visors. I have a pair but how are they attached? Is there a piece of timber to screw into through the headlining? ta

I see. Had a poke about but could not feel any obvious holes, any suggestions on how these might be located?

Possibly trawl through the Fulvia coupe blog by norman thomas

When I replaced my headlining, I thought I'd measured/ recorded the exact position of the holes for these (and the rear view mirror), but even though I roughly knew the location, I clearly hadn't plotted them accurately enough and it was a nightmare to find them. In the end I used a long, v. fine needle that pierced through the headlining without causing any noticeable damage. I must have stabbed it countless times before I finally located them. And once you find one, the other is obviously easier as you can compare it to the centre of the visors.
Sorry I can't think or recommend a better way, but hopefully others can...

After removing my headlining I made up a paper template and marked on it the position of all the holes.  Even with the template it took a little  probing (with a needle like Cyborg 7 described) to locate the holes.  I may still have the template and if so could give you some measurements.  I'm away at the moment but will check when I get back and will send you a pm to let you know.

Did some digging in my laptop files and found this picture of the template I made.  It's cardboard rather than paper.  The paper templates that I know I kept must be just those of the A and C pilar covers.  I'm pretty sure I didn't keep anything made from cardboard - but will still check when I get home.  The picture might be of use to you in that it shows relative positions of the mounting holes.

Simon, here are 2 pics showing the locations of the two sets of holes.  You should be able to feel the waves in the sheet metal under the headliner and then move your fingers over to find the holes.  This is what I did when I replaced my headliner (thanks to Norm for his excellent tutorial).  Hope this helps.

Took some measurements off my S3 with original seal. If you make a paper template, tape it to the headlining and use that as a starting point – saves you adding extra perforations!

Thankyou all, the photos and measurements were a great help. My visors, not original to the car ,seemed to be a few mm to long for holes but a bit of persuasion and they are both in place.
