Title: Day & Whites (Brands Hatch, Kent.
Post by: BlueKSO on 30 December, 2020, 08:59:25 PM
Re: Day & Whites,

Has anyone used Day & Whites at Brands Hatch for repairs in the last year or so.  I used them at the end of 2015, but I believe they changed hands in about 2016.  I have a couple of things to do on my 63 Flavia which I can’t manage in my garage.  They still advertise servicing on Alfa Romeo and Fiat related products and I was satisfied with the work they did for me.  What made me think about them was that Harry Metcalfe (Harrys Garage) is apparently taking his Fulvia Sport there to be fettled.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Happier New Year to all.  Cheers,  Peter

The only experience I've had with them was a phone enquiry I made regarding some work required on my Fulvia earlier this year.
I'm afraid whoever answered the phone was arrogance personified! First impressions and second chances lost them my business I'm afraid but maybe others have a different opinion.

I spoke with them about an engine rebuild for my 1.3 Fulvia and had a look around the workshop. One of the principals had a rather dismissive air about him especially when I told him what my budget was. Their prices for a rebuild were much greater than those quoted by others. Still, they run a business and if their customers are prepared to pay those rates, why not. I should also add that from what I saw their work was of a very high standard. I went elsewhere.

I have always had John Day help with my Fulvias since the late 1980s. Very knowledgable and experienced. How much is an engine rebuild these days? £1000 per cylinder has been mentioned in the past, but I suppose we are no longer in the past.

Peter,

You are correct that brothers Mike and Gordon Spiteri now run the garage, but John Day is still very much an active part of their setup. They have performed a significant overhaul on my Fulvia over 2019/20, and I chose them in part because of the locality to my preferred bodyshop, John Day's reputation & professional opinion, but also Gordon's enthusiasm for old Lancia and his commitment to getting the job done right.  As for value for money, you make your own decisions, but they are on a par with my Fiat Dino specialist and cheaper than my BMW specialist; all based in a similar part of the UK for similar garages.

Overall, I've been very happy with their work and would recommend.

Andy

I'm about to do some work with them and will feed back to the group. I'm optimistic though, I dealt with Gordon on the phone who was helpful, nice and prompt to follow-up as well.

They did the extensive engine rebuild on Harry Metcalfs Zagato 1600 great video on Harry’s Garage YouTube channel.
The total cost for body work paint and mechanical a whopping £85,000 but the car looks and sounds amazing.
I guess if you want the best it comes at a cost.
