Title: Fulvia HF competizione auction
Post by: AusFulvia on 22 October, 2020, 08:50:05 PM
Up for auction in London on the Sotheby’s online auction. The only Fulvia Competizione. How cool is this. So different to any other fulvia.  https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/lf20/london/lots/r0064-1970-lancia-fulvia-hf-competizione/998949

It sure is something else. I notice that it has chassis no. 2279.
My S1's engine is 2279.

It appears to be built on a S1 1600 chassis, but with a 1300HF engine.

Rare, but you could buy six pretty Fulvias for that.

Not what it appears...... Chassis number is +1 from the Series but the car was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1969. The engine is a 1600 (block height) but seemingly an early Var1016 based on 342 crankcase (my info is about 5-10 of these were built in 1968) prototyping  the 818540 - has standard DDHF42s, and a modern alternator but still mech fan. The front subframe is unique as it lowers the engine and does away with the transverse leaf spring in favour of coil over dampers. The satin black and pop rivet scoop and flares are ugly and later additions.

No such thing as matching numbers for Fulvias etc.

Is there a story behind the colours of the Lancia badge on the steering wheel? I've seen a key rings in those colours too.

Seems a reasonable price, certain buyers are more into the prestigious events they can attend than the car itself and this must be one of the cheapest invites available.

I was expecting "a Fulvia" so took a few seconds to work out I'd clicked the right link. Anyone logged in to read all the blurb?

Ok pleased to read Tim's story on this car, at the first look I thought it was mid engined like the Stratos prototype seen the very low nose...not for rallying then I guess.

And indeed whats the story on the two handbrake levers?

Maybe it's the control for the rear spoiler, which seems to be adjustable.  Airbrakes????

I just noticed how Strato's the front seats are...... Why the 1600HF on the dash which is Series 2 and much later....??

The tacho needle is erratic in the video - why so?

sticky mechanical cable?

I haven't seen the video - but my favourite reason for such variation is scrabbling for grip, less so when its an open diff in a long corner, but all the same.

Mechanical tacho? Maybe the cable is snatching or there might be wear inside the casing so that the drive magnet is catching or getting too close?

Am now thinking the tach might be chronometric.  Posh 50s GP cars have them.  Some old british bikes.  The needle flicks between readings.

Reviving an old thread I just wondered if there are any pictures of the suspension of the car - I'm sure I've seen some somewhere but can't find them now. Doesn't it have independent rear suspension too? Not that I'm thinking of modifying my car but always intrigued as to what has been done!

From memory the rear suspension is reminiscent of the Beta design but using coil over dampers as opposed to MacPherson struts.

Thanks Tim, as I said, I'm sure I've seen pictures somewhere but can't find them now. If anyone has any I'd love to see them again.

Definitely dodgy cable, the speedo is dead smooth so magnetic not chronometric.
