Title: Rear Side Windows on Coupe
Post by: colinw on 10 November, 2018, 07:41:48 PM
The rear side window on my coupe is loose. The long vertical rubber hinge has lost its grip on the glass and when the window is pivoted to an open position the whole glass moves vertically and comes to rest on the lower chromed edge of the fixed part of the frame and thankfully not on the floor or roadway as yet!!
My parts manual does not show how the assembly is put together.  Does the long rubber hinge simply grip the glass or is there an adhesive involved? I assume that the rubber hinge is somehow dovetailed into the fixed part of the frame.
If anyone can shed some light on this aspect and specifically how to fix the problem then I would be much obliged.  I had been chasing a clunking noise coming from the suspension or from the top of the shock absorbers but then realised that the clunk went away with the window closed.
Many thanks to all.

Had this issue and was very lucky. Window was open and popped out after hitting a pot hole. Fortunately it held on thanks to the latch and it didn't even scratch the paint.

I simply measured up the width and depth of the recess that the window slides into and bought a metre length of rubber U section that had the same dimensions. No problems since.

Inserting the glass with the new rubber is a tight fit so some lubrication of the channel is required.

Many thanks for the on hands info very useful. Incidentally did you fit the rubber and glass in situ or did you take out the channel into which the glass fits?
Thanks again

I did it en-situ. Might be able to find details of where I bought U section from,  but lots of suppliers for that stuff.

Many thanks for this most helpful.
If you do manage to find your supplier then I would be most greatful as there are not many around where I live.
Thanks again
