Interior looks great, the under bonnet not so much. What happened to the oil filler cap?!

It looks like a highly worthy project but the vendor may need to adjust his expectations on price.

In fairness, the listing does say open to offers. Suspect he'll need someone knowledgable to inspect the car and give an appraisal? I'm not familiar with Beta Saloons or Trevis. Two models I never had..

There's a nice looking one coming up for auction in at SWVA in Poole in April: BOK660T, chassis 828CB1029133

Again, no connection at all...

The vendor is of course open to offers but I was thinking that if the "buy it now" price is indicative of his expectations he may be a bit disappointed. Having said which I consider a perfect interior to be a highly prized item especially when it's something that isn't common.

As a 1977 car next year it should be tax free and exempt from the new ULEZ.

https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles

"All vehicles that have a 'historic' vehicle tax class or are registered prior to 1 January 1973 will be exempt from the ULEZ."

The SWVA car has been on the market for some time now at £5,000; the auction estimate of £3,000-3,500 seems a more realistic figure ... which in turn suggests the eBay car's £2,500 price is somewhat optimistic.

Just looked up Fay 224D on the ULEZ checker which says" liable to ULEZ from April 2019"  ???

Brian,

My 2C : You are not subject to the ULEZ
My 2000HF : From 8 April 2019 if you travel in the ULEZ you will need to pay the daily ULEZ charge. This is because your vehicle does not meet the ULEZ standards.

However, it also states, "All vehicles that have a 'historic' vehicle tax class will be exempt from the ULEZ." The 2000HF , manufactured in 1973 has a  'historic' vehicle tax class!

https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/blog/market-trends/historic-cars-win-exemption-in-ultra-low-emission-zone

Historic cars have been handed an exemption from charges and restrictions in London’s newUltra Low Emission Zone – meaning the world’s oldest motoring event can continue.
All vehicles that have a ‘historic’ vehicle tax class will be exempt from the ULEZ, which comes into effect on 7 September 2020.

Just checked again and the vehicle checker still says liable to ULEZ,but looking in exemptions, as you so rightly pointed out it says Historic vehicles are exempt.
So that's alright! if I come up to London when it comes into force I'll have to bring Fay, as my 2006 Renault Megane doesn't :o :o

Brian - something like a 2C might just be the sort of thing I'm looking at for a "daily driver". I'm hoping others will look at the problem the same way and we'll see a lot more "historics" on the road.

The debate here (domestically) is "you can't throw money at that 1987 Mercedes you've been running the last 14 years as it will soon be banned".  It won't actually be BANNED but its something like £12:50 a day which is ok against renting a van or a big car for a trip but makes school runs and popping to the shops a no-no.  Something I haven't got to the bottom of (Justin?) is if its a "5 day a week" zone or if it includes the weekends.  If "old smokey" becomes a "weekends OR £12 per day" then can that helps with keeping it.

The obvious option - what the policy is pushing us towards - is to trade it for something more modern.  Did that in 2012 with a BMW Touring (managed to keep the MB as "dad's workhorse", its now "family car" again) which we sold last year rather than fixing the gearbox. (Not a cheap car to run at all...)

MUCH more fun is to look to 1976 and earlier...perhaps a Flavia Jolly is "a sensible option" ;)   Not going to get away with that, but  she's been in a 2C and we came close to buying one.  It could do nearly all the "family car" work and rent (or the "weekend" MB) for the times it didn't.

David,
the ultra low emission zone will have the same boundaries as the congestion charge area. As a suburbanite I find myself avoiding driving in that part of London now anyway, the traffic congestion removing most of the fun of journeys I used to make regularly. Perhaps from where you are you find yourself crossing the zone to get to other parts of town, which is not the case coming from the west where I live. Thus I see no reason not to continue to spend money keeping my 300TD going for mundane purposes. Having said that I would envy you enormously if you turn to a Fulvia berlina for daily use, which is what I would do anyway if I had a convenient second garage space.

My issue is if the congestion charge zone is expanded - proposed for 2021 but looks very likely and there's talk of it being even earlier once the consultation closes.  There's also talk of taking it to the M25.

We are now consulting on detailed proposals for two further initiatives to improve London’s air. These involve:

Tightening the standards of the existing London-wide Low Emission Zone from 2020, which affects heavy vehicles – buses, coaches and HGVs and other heavy specialist vehicles
Expanding the ULEZ for light vehicles (cars, vans and motorcycles) from central London to inner London up to, but not including the North and South Circular roads in 2021 so that all vehicles in this area are subject to emissions standards

David, if you were thinking of goiing to a Fulvia Berlina as a daily driver I'd suggest looking at a series 2 as there's more of them, they have the 1298cc engine and the five speed gearbox,  usually they are also cheaper than series 1's.
Brian Edwards used to use a series 2 as a daily driver and said it was ideal.

Just had a look and absolutely there's choice out there still.

Not fond of the colour - but it was the first one that popped up in Piemonte which being "top left" really does half the trip home against "bottom right".

https://www.subito.it/auto/lancia-fulvia-berlina-torino-211184496.htm

Same region - nice looking 2C

https://www.subito.it/auto/lancia-fulvia-2c-prima-serie-perfetta-1966-torino-242012134.htm

Another S2

https://www.subito.it/auto/lancia-fulvia-anno-1972-torino-240486974.htm

A 2C GT - I'd heard of the GTE but not the GT.

https://www.subito.it/auto/lancia-fulvia-2c-gt-torino-236986867.htm

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancia_Fulvia

Quite a long way off the thread title at this point, but shows there's still a lot of cars out there to look at if so inclined.

David,

the consultation proposal is to extend the London ultra low emission zone for private cars in 2021 to more or less the area within the North and South Circular Roads, not as drastic as the M25 area, but still a d-----d nuisance of course.

The GTE Fulvia is much like a 2C, but with the 1.2 coupé engine, first of 1216cc then 1231cc. It can have either column or floor gear change. Overall gearing at 10/43 is between that of the 2C, 9/41, and GTE 10/41. The GTE has servo brakes as on the Coupé Rally 1.3S.

Over 48,000 GTs were made, and something over 10,000 GTEs, according to the Nada Editore Fulvia, Flavia, Flaminia book.
British road tests showed the GT as going pretty well, not far off the GTE and pretty much as fast as the series 2 cars.

Interesting that they can be either column or floor shift.  Any of them get a bench at the front to seat six?

Never a bench seat on a Fulvia, and at introduction Lancia clearly said that there was none because the capacity of the car was not suitable for a six seater.

Back on the Beta, there were no takers with a £2,500 buy it now but it is relisted getting plenty of bids. Reserve not met at £520 but this time we should see how far it goes.
