Title: Petrol expansion on a warm day. Post by: HBG on 03 September, 2023, 03:01:33 PM Came home yesterday to see a drip drip of petrol on the floor under the rear wing. I've had this before with a full tank and a warm day.
I didn't open the filler cap. There was no fuel inside the flap so it wasn't leaking through that small drain. The car is parked on a slight slope so that the filler cap is slightly down hill with can't help but is this normal? Surely the car can cope with a little expansion? What if it gets really hot? Thanks Title: Re: Petrol expansion on a warm day. Post by: nistri on 03 September, 2023, 04:42:01 PM Probably leaking from the joint between filler pipe and tank.

Post by: ColinMarr on 04 September, 2023, 01:12:23 PM The plastic vent pipe from the top of the tank goes up high inside the rear wing and then down and out below the filler pipe. On the up-hill side there should be a plastic ‘bottle’ for any fuel to drain back to the tank. Sometimes, this bottle is missing and dollops of fuel can appear on the down side. I had this issue with my Fulvia and it puzzled me for ages.
