Title: Reg. date????
Post by: Keithver on 24 May, 2023, 09:13:44 AM
My SA registration papers show that my car was first registered here in 1972. Looking at the spreadsheet of 'manufacturing years and chassis numbers', I see that my chassis number is bang in the middle of the 1970 sequence. Am I miss-understanding something or is my car in fact a 1970 model. This would better explain why I have so many series 1 parts on my series 2 car. This isn't really important, but more interesting. Why would there be so much lapsed time between manufacture and registration.
Any thought please?

Was your car built in South Africa (if so it would likely have a red Daihatsu build plate near the VIN plate)? If so there would be a fair delay between Lancia allocating the VIN and Daihatsu assembling the car. If not could it be a private import?

Thanks Neil. It does indeed have the red Daihatsu build plate. Things obviously moved a lot slower in those days. Two years seems like a long time. Thanks for the insight :D
