Hello,

As I currently have my engine on a stand, running well, I thought it would be good to test that the dynamo an voltage regulator does a good job.

D+ from the dynamo, does that go to the "+" on the underside of the regulator, and DF on the dynamo to the other connection underside the regulator?
...and then 61 and 51 on the regulator to the battery?

hmmm
I think I am wrong about these connections.
If somebody have the time, could they check where D+ and DF from the Dynamo go on the voltage regulator?

Please take a picture of the underside of the voltage regulator and post it here.

Hi,
Picture attached.
One of the connectors has a "+" mark, the other seems to be unmarked.

As I understand it 51 is the output from the regulator, and 61 is for the charging light.

So my bet, as of now is

Dynamo "D+"   -> VR "+"
Dynamo "DF"  -> VR unmarked on underside

Your bet is right. Make sure all ground connections exist and the other wire from the charging lamp is connected to ignition+ (15)
Is it a Bosch regulator?

Great, thank you!
It is a Marelli regulator

IŽll try to hook it up in a day or two and see if I can get some charging.

Others parts of the project got in the way, and I have not made this work yet.
I suspect the regulator is faulty, but in order to rule out the dynamo- how much voltage should the dynamo itself make, without the regulator attached?

…. Measured about 60mV between the two connectors on the dynamo, at idle, and about 250mV at 3000rpm

Over the years I have tried to find to find someone somewhere in Europe who can repair the OE Aurelia Marelli voltage regulators without success.
So these days, if I have a problem I fit a modern sold state regulator inside the original Marelli casing which has been well described by Tim Heath in the UK LMC magazine and also on this Forum I recall.
The dynamos themselves rarely need more than new bearings and brushes.

That's very useful Chris, thank you, can you let me know which edition Tim's update appeared in?
