thats spooky Michael, i have had a very nice one with the original white painted numbers for sale for 6 months and its just been bought and taken away in the last hour or so.if i find another i will make contact.is yours seriously beyond repair?best regards richard

Very odd! Hope that you can rustle up another one. The 1600 is a bit crunchy and by the time the garage take it off and patch it up, I would rather a fresh one fitted if going all the bother.

I seem to remember many years ago a company called Scorpion did a prototype subframe for production – but the costs pushed the selling price well into 4 figures (and that was over 10 years ago!), so what would the cost would be now?
When Scorpion sold up, I think Omicron bought and reengineered the tooling to produce the rear out-riggers (and other parts?) which are usually the parts of the subframe that need replacing. They also have a jig which they use when replacing these and making other repairs to make sure the repaired subframe is correct and fits. They can also supply the parts if you want to DIY repair. I have no idea what a refurbished subframe from Omicron costs, but I guess less than reproducing a new one.

I have one here in Ireland, it's rusty but not chrunchy Just covered in brown rusty flakes,one uf the outriggers ehere the rubber sits in is a bit weak around the rim. Salt was never used in Ireland for the roads until this year so Irish cars never rusted the same as British cars. Thanks David.

On another note, the subframe I used in the restoration of my Fulvia I had sand blasted and powder coated, there was a bit of welding at the top of the outriggers where it was a bit weak, I think this is because the water gets trapped here between the rubber and the body and causes rust. Thanks all. One leg is detached and assume the other would not take much to do the same! They legs are available from Omicron though at £180 for the two....plus the dreaded VAT. I wonder if an order was placed for say 20 subframes complete, what the cost would be. Maybe around £200 complete?
I am waiting for a price back from my panel man who is making the rest of the lower body panels and decide from there.

Some of the pieces are pressings, so press tools would be required, getting them rust treated and properly painted (powder coated or stove enamelled) would cost at least £200 on its own. Say 20 hrs labour to put one together @£30/hr would be another £600 + materials and a bit of profit. Unfortunately I think the most cost effective route is the one you are going down.

I spoke to the seller of the eBay galvanised subframe today. He says the car going with it (and as pictured) is not in fact a Sport but rather a 1974 S3 1300 LHD Coupe with the front cut off and wearing a cape that makes it look like a Sport. Bootlid missing. Lights, glass and brown fabric interior are present. He included Zagato in the title not as a description but rather because the subframe will fit one. I imagine the said subframe is now fitted to this shell using only 4 of the 6 mounting points.

I think i have already spent around €500.00 on the restoration of my subframe. It is galvanised and you get a free parts car with a low milage engine , Not a bad deal, the cost of restoring an engine £1,000.00 . Thanks David.
