Title: 1961 Flaminia sedan for sale
Post by: oldracer on 01 November, 2022, 11:22:21 AM
I like the idea of owning it (and the colour scheme) but too much of a 'rolling restoration' I suspect:

It’s been for sale for some time, but sadly I don’t have the space or time.

It's been for sale for quite a long time and I believe those are old photos. It's been off the road for a few years because the owner couldn't get it working. It also has a mismatched interior with seats not matching the rest of the trim, which is pretty grubby. This picture perhaps gives a more realistic impression and even this is some years ago. If neither I nor Mr Buckley have jumped at the opportunity to buy it then it should probably be approached with caution.

Do these brakes seize with the wrong fluid? I thought I had DOT4.

I couldnt understand the reference to DOT 2 brake fluid. These days I thought our old cars were always happy with DOT 4 and the only issue was potential problems with used rubber seals when changing from DOT 4 to a silicone based fluid?
This car presumably has dual circuit Dunlop disc brakes and a remote servo so the system is not particularly complex.

Yea she is pretty grubby, but in my ownership now. The breaks lock when warm but work when cold. I suspect ooold fluid saturated with water. So will start by flushing the system completely.. not running, but got new points, coil and condenser (good compression).. let’s see next week! Both rear quarters need work including some patches on lower front door skins and left front wheel arch, the rest is bad prep work with surface rust lifting the paint. So full metal strip down planned at some point...
Hi fellow Flaminia owners! Hope you are well

Yea it’s a lot of work, but I would love a 4 door family mover when mechanically safe and cleeeeeeaned up🤞

Bravo Mitka! Well done for saving it - there's a lot to like about Lancia saloons  ;)
