Just a thought regarding Fulvia priming issue.........would an in-line non return valve, maybe a the back of the car, keep fuel in the fuel line so the mechanical pump is always primed??

It is much simpler to fit an electric pump in the boot (on my Sport, under the trim on the left) with a Filter King to control the pressure and delete the mechanical pump.  I have done this for years without problem.   Similarly on my Aprilia. Just fit a couple of inline filters to catch the grot from the tank.

Had lots of issues with 1970s Fiat mechanical fuel pumps back in the 80s and 90s. Blanked off and went over to Facet with filter seemed to solve most of them.

Fulvia race car had lots of trouble with Facet in engine bay (heat) but replaced with set up designed for American V8s and never looked back.
