When I bought my Appia a couple of years ago, it came with no heater, and no indication that one had ever been fitted. However with its third UK winter coming up I was not looking forward to more chilly trips - the cockpit seems very well insulated from the engine!

I had looked at sourcing a suitable heater and established that the Clayton unit was still available, but would need some modifications to fit, and it wasn't exactly cheap. So I was very pleased to locate and buy an original new-old-stock Appia heater from Italy - after lengthy negotiations it wasn't any cheaper than the Clayton unit, but at least it should fit straight in:

The parcel arrived this morning, and I was interested to see that although it is a Carello unit, it is in fact a Smiths unit made under licence! So if anyone else is looking for one, or parts for one, it might be worth investigating parts for Riley RM and Jowett Javelin ... and no doubt other UK cars of the period!

I think that's an Aurelia heater - note the demist take-off is at an angle.

Thanks, Jim - that gives me a warm glow even before I've installed the heater! I thought mine was expensive at less than half that price  Smiley
