Why the Union jack?
« on: 15 July, 2017, 05:54:28 PM »
Last week I was lucky enough to see a Delta Evoluzione which was apparently untouched from the early 90s.
Upon looking at my photos I am wondering why the Union Jack is shown by the Martini Racing legend above the famous Finnish driver and co drivers names?

The bonnet handle is a detail I've never noticed before, very purposeful.

What's the gizmo above the "H"?  Looks like a quick release pin for something with a guard over it.  Mount the light rack perhaps?

The obvious suggestion for the Union Jack is that Martini Racing were a UK based team at the time.

A Safari Rally car by the looks of the auxiliary lights near the 'screen, so guessing the pins are for the extra bumper bar that they had across the front end.

Yes, you are correct. The car appears to be exactly as it finished the East African Safari complete with front bar, lights  etc etc.
But I am still puzzled as to the reason for the Union Jack when its an Italian car run from an Italian base with an Italian sponsor?
