But then as a side note, something off the scale, is there much of a market for these, or should every household have one!!!!?Huh??

I see the S3 Appia didn't sell. What sort of price should it be going for?

Interested to see that it was withdrawn, rather than not sold; does that mean an offer was accepted before the auction?

It's difficult to put a price on an Appia, so few come on the market, but I would have thought a left-hand drive Series 3 like this in fully roadworthy condition should fetch £6-8,000, so deduct what you think this one needed to make it a runner, and I would guess that puts it at around £4,000?

I know this isn't an Ercole thread but as we have a lull in vine related activities here now having pruned and tied in, I have spent some time looking more closely at our Ercole and formulating a plan.
It will be a 'sort out the mechanics and leave the cosmetics' project for now we have decided, particularly as I have a nice S4 B20 to finish reassembling this year.
I now have the Ercole engine starting (kick start with no valve lifter) and running reasonably well having discovered that the fuel tank had lots of rubbish in it and the main fuel tap wasn't either opening or closing fully.
The hydraulics for the tipper work perfectly well but I have no rear brakes ( the front cable brake works but is rubbish) so I started with the master cylinder which is now at Past Parts in the UK being resleeved. The rear wheels are help on by 5 x handed brass 22mm nuts each side and the drums are held on by large nuts and handed locking nuts, all of which are beautifully made.
One rear brake drum is resisting my best efforts to remove it by heat, puller and hammer but I will win this battle somehow.
The other one came off easily and the handbrake mechanism and general quality of engineering is again very good. I seem to have the later 60's steel wheel cylinders fitted which I am optimistic will just need honing carefully and resealing and the handbrake and footbrake mechanism is generally worn and needs rebushing  The brake backplates are like new albeit filthy and today I have invested in a power washer to use after Gunk + brush action on various parts of the vehicle.
I have a new wiring loom for €35 and probably the most expensive thing I will have to buy (so far!!) will be a new silencer @ €160 but for the moment I have patched up the existing one in an effort to quieten the thing down.
All good fun though and my aim is to try to have it ready for use either for our grape harvest in September or more realistically our olive harvest in November.

Glad to know of the progress Chris. That B20 might prove to be a distraction!!!

Just one thing, any photographs of the progress with the Ercole? They would be greatly appreciated!!!

Start a thread in General Chat?  Should we have an "Other Projects" section?

Not quite an Ercole, but in UK it appears, no connection to seller.
