Do you consider the car to be a salvageable prospect? I honestly thought it was a bit beyond.......maybe I am being a tad pessimistic.

The first car looks really good. I would still check the rear suspension turrets for corrosion though, and do a thorough test drive!
You would not be able to restore the second car to the same condition....

Everything is restorable, it's just how much time, effort and cash you throw at it. Personally, I wouldn't with that one but there might be some that might especially if the finished product is solid and worth £20k plus.

My thought was that it might be a candidate for a donor body. Given that someone just paid over £800 for an engine this "light weight special" will find a home. I would rather see a "fake" Volumex built than see the supercharger go off to the vintage MG fraternity.

So the auction ended - but I don't think it sold? I do wonder how much more interest would be generated if the owner changed the belts, oil, plugs etc and at least got the engine running? Maybe prospective buyers would then have the confidence to bid? I am interested to see how much this one goes for........ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182260809649?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

So I bought the rusty coupe! The bad news is that the supercharger has gone astray but I got the rest of the car for £450 plus £300 to transport it from Ireland. Plan is to take off all the bits I need and sell on the rest to pay for them. What's really upsetting me is that I missed out on that HPE. I toyed with the idea, but it didn't look great from the photos, I was thinking £500 for a punt as the state under the bonnet suggested it could have been rotted to pieces, but it ended up going for £870. What's so painful is that it was clearly bought by a trader and is back on Ebay today. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201661931458?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITSomeone's going to make a lot of money.

I was going to say, I was thinking that wasn't a bad price for the supercharger alone but I am not surprised it has gone.
If someone wants a HPE Volumex you should check out John Moss Blundell's one advertised in Viva Lancia. It is effectively a one owner car. Whilst I haven't seen it and John would never claim to be any sort of engineer or mechanic, he is a quite particular gentleman so I would imagine it has been reasonably well looked after.

And the listing for the HPE has ended already! I just hope that it's gone to someone who'll recommission it rather than break it for the supercharger! It looked to be quite solid from the pictures on eBay.. Guy

Interesting. Way too good to break, looks like one of the best ones left.

I was told it sold for £2500 Personally, I would need to hear the engine run for that sum. Basic service and belts...........I am being too picky?
