Been having issues with pumping grease into a new Upper Ball joint. It's a FRAP part and I've not had issues with their ball joints before. Wondering if anyone else has had problems with this.

Excuse my ignorance...

As per the first post, I've been struggling to get grease into a newly fitted upper ball joint. A few pumps of the grease gun and the grease goes everywhere other than into the Zerk fitting.

The ball joint is pressed into the upper arm and the boot retaining flange is bolted down on top of the ball joint, but the hub upright is not attached so there is no load on the ball joint at all other than the pressure of grease built up in the housing of the ball joint.

My question is this, am I potentially damaging the ball joint by injecting grease without some back pressure on the joint. I'm concerned that I might be exerting enough pressure to start deforming the heavy duty plastic cup ring that retains the ball joint in its seat.

dont these joints also have a tapped hole to apply grease via nipple? If so you could play with a spare to see if you have to load it. I must admit I probably have only greased the complete assembly (loaded or unloaded) and never had your problem.Try tapping the ball shaft to see if you can feel the spring behind.

Its not the winning but taking part! or is it taking apart?

Out of curiosity, I took another spare ball joint that wouldn't accept grease either and pumped it full of grease with it held in a vice at the base. As the grease pressure increased, the ball joint started to push its way out of the base and eventually "popped" out. There was no spring in the base?
