Well, to be fair, not just Lancias. I've just received the news below from an Anglo/French newspaper called Connexion. Might save some plans being disrupted, although because of the stickers mentioned I'm not totally sure if this would apply to non-French registered cars?
FROM July 1, private cars registered before January 1, 1997, will be banned from the streets of Paris during the week, as the latest stage of the capital's pollution-busting plans comes into force.
These vehicles - along with coaches, buses and HGVs registered before September 30, 2001, vans and light trucks registered before September 30, 1997, and motorcycles registered before 1999 - will not be allowed into key areas of Paris between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday.
Meanwhile, environment minister Ségolène Royal, unveiled six colour-coded stickers to help drivers understand if they can use their vehicles during periods of higher pollution. Motorists will soon be able to order the stickers online via the environment ministry website.

Ah, so modern cars that had their emissions tests falsified are welcome to kill as many Parisians as they like!

Please see the communication from the Federation Francaise des Vehicules d'Epoque on the following link: http://www.ffve.org/FLASH_INFO_92Matters are perhaps not quite so unremittingly grim. Those resident in France may have a better understanding of the the ins and outs of the "carte grise de collection". Cesare

You have to apply, and only if your is over 30 years old. It is in effect a V5 equivelent for older (French registered) cars. Has a 5 year Controle Technique (MOT).... I think I have got this right but if not please correct....

Yes, that's right Tim. So any car registered as a 'Vehicle de collection' will be exempt. Still not sure how this would affect an older UK registered car over 30 years old? Cars don't automatically become 'collection' vehicles after a certain age, you have to apply and register it. One major change since I've been here is that vehicles de collection could once only be driven in your own department and the surrounding ones. I still have a book of vouchers and in order to travel further you had to get permission and use one of them for the trip. This is now scrapped and you can travel anywhere in France.

Wasn't there something like this in place when we went to Turin on the Fulvia Knights Rallye? Brian 8227

Turin was supposed to restrict older cars and maybe it changed now but the restriction as far as I could determine was only the Centro Storico. When we took our Gammas into Turin on Saturday and Sunday there did not seem to be any restrictions by the local Italian organisers (ie no embargoes or warnings etc). And we drove our Fulvias down the centro storico of Cuneo pedestrianised Via Roma (with permissions)....

That's worth knowing. Like Brian, I was under the impression we'd have to leave the Fulvias outside and get a bus in. I'm sure any true Italian policeman would turn a blind eye even if you wasn't supposed to be in there.
