Does anyone know how to get the boot lid support unit working properly.

After some years it stops supporting the lid when open.

It would seem the spring loses its "springyness" and fails to keep the lid open.

It has been suggested to pack out the end of the spring, but since the spring is fully compressed (spring expands when lid opens) when the lid is closed that idea does not work.

Does anyone have any tips or perhaps a good working unit I could purchase?

Cheers

If you can get at he spring, perhaps you could stretch it - or find a longer or stronger one.

My Vignale came with a bamboo stick to use as a support strut when the boot is open. If you manage to find a fix or supplier of replacement springs, I'd love to know.

My previos Vignale worked on the level - just but any down slope forget it as you could lose your head (had a stick in the boot afterwards)

My latest project Vignale was the same until the car was bare metal repainted when have a ton of filler was removed from the boot skin. Now the poor little spring thing copes quite well. Message - the boot lid is to heavy not the spring is too weak....

This is the solution for all you Flavia Vignales!
Contact SGS Engineering in Derby who make custom gas struts, ask for Thomas. He will recall he just provided a gas strut for me.
It's about £40 all in. I have fitted it and it looks and works fine.
