Just took off and checked my starter and think the machinist put on too many spacers for it to engage with the flywheel.

In the 2nd pic I have pushed the pinon gear with a screwdriver out as far as it can go before hitting the spacer.

If I am correct, can I simply remove the 3 spacers (nearest the body) and leave the bigger one?
