Side on it looks like its on stilts.  Also looks high on the cover. 

I expect its just the modern eye expecting cars to sit low. 

It reminds me of Touring and Zagato bodied Alfas in Mille Miglia photos with the running boards set high, often along the same line as the wheel centres.  Was the thinking in that era of "low flying" or "clearing obstacles" or "go anywhere"?  Many of the roads in that era were what we'd think of as rally special stages or tracks, and post war so many roads poor, that a stance like a modern rally car would be more appropriate than a track special.
