On facebook I liked the comment "When I was an apprentice mechanic I got fed up with the prices paint and panel shops charged. So I did an evening course on how to do it myself. Ever since then I have paid the money."

No, still going however looks like they are trying hard to get it completed as the most recent episodes have come relatively quickly after each other.

With a spot of the man flu I enjoyed a day binge watching this build.  He had a HIGHLY modified E55 (active rear wing, rocker arm suspension in the boot, turbos in the boot to supplement the supercharger...) which went pop, having rebuilt the engine he built a better car to put it in to be cheaper on tyres and brakes and to be easier to work on.  Tube frame, makes his own suspension, cut and shut job on uprights, fits the electrically adjustable steering and gets the peddles going back and forth, pneumatic gear change off his own ecu, fits engine management, strips the supercharger and makes manifolds for "just" turbos.  Does proper sums for crumple zone, "not very good at CFD" so make a wind tunnel to test a model (that's about 45 seconds of the ten hours).  Carbon undertray, having done tests slops the resin on with a paint brush to get it done on time.

8:30 for the crash and cops.  Am half expecting Clarkeson to be doing the voice over and doing his very sorry face.  Somewhere I think it says only two months for that design and build...

He combines chop-shop confidence with pukka graduate engineer smarts and HUGE energy.  As he didn't get finished before the snows (Canada) he hauled it to California for some track days behind his broken road car (been busy on the racer...) which I worked out is about the distance from here to Istanbul.

It's a different world, no tax, no insurance, no type approval but the police let him off after crashing into another vehicle. The self build car C2 is a bit agricultural compared with Project Binky but a good still fascinating. I suspect Colin Chapman would have wanted to "add lightness".

Quite different objectives to Binky, but amazing work.  Building the frame without a jig was impressive.  All within a standard double garage... 

There's a Binky interview with them being relatively sensible answering questions.  The design for the heating and ventilation (and aircon!) was the one that got the dark haired one to raise his eyebrows when he saw the "cardboard octopus" or whatever.  That flip front over such a tight packed engine bay, with a normal bonnet as well, with a remote control to flip it and the ability to lift it off.  Bonkers how the spec went up and up. 

I like the effort to make the bulkhead look like a factory pressing.  The flexishaft drive over the top of the engine is the one bit that looks odd vs a production car.
