you are funny!
anyway engine and gearbox bolted down so I thought I would have a go at adjusting the gearchange as it would stick in 4th? 3 hours later and a lot of swearing it is sorted all that was needed was to adjust the length of one of the adjustable rods to stop the gearlever going too far over causing it to jam as you could not get enough leverage on it to flip it back into the central position. So after shortening it by a few turns (made it worse) I lengthened it by about 6 turns and bingo a functioning gearchange. However the clutch feels funny so I will have a look at that tomorrow and hopefully fit the propshaft.

Never got round to the propshaft got bogged down with the accelerator and choke. The accelerator tie rod got mangled when the engine was put back so had to be straightened. The elves had been playing with some cutters and somehow had managed to cut an inch and a half of the choke cable off... the little scamps so it had to be replaced so we now have a working throttle and choke. Propshaft tomorrow.

Hi all
decided to sort out the clutch before the propshaft so 4 hours later we have a new clutch arm bush fitted after a struggle changing the original S1 one for a S2/3 one as we have no bushes for the early type but lots of the later ones. needless to say the later one did not want to go on the pedal cross shaft more accurately the clamp bolt would not go in . The solution was to ream out the clamp bolt holes and file the slot in the cross shaft a bit deeper...result!
So on to the propshaft I managed to get 2 bolts in the front doughnut and one in the back doughnut so tomorrow I'll jack up the back end and rotate the propshaft to let me get the other bolts in.

Hi all
Propshaft in also got the starter motor, coil, dynamo and fuel pump connected up. It has been in my mind to drain the tank as it always smelled of paint thinners so out came the drain plug and the picture tells it all. Have ordered some new mesh so will soon have it back in. The keen eyed will notice the S1 drain plug is different to the later cars and even has a different thread. Will try out the electrics tomorrow and possibly give the tank a flush out.

The Italian gremlins have been busy because as soon as I connected the battery the horn started up! seems it was a sticking central horn push so one more job done. Ordered some new mesh for the fuel tank filter so will plod on with the electrics as it now seems the headlights will not come on...now where is that multimeter..

Few faults partially sorted as the light switch was fritzed and the headlamp changeover switch seems to have a permanent earth on the lead to the changeover relay. the light switch I changed for a S3 but it has a black not white knob so will have to see if I can repair the original one. The problem with the change over switch is the only way to have a good look at it is to remove the steering column as it might be the wiring from inside the column. Still we have working headlights now after sorting a few dodgy earths out so a bit of progress.

Headlights now working but the changeover switch and the relay are a bit flaky I think they just need some use. The horn has been apart and removed about 3 times and at the last attempt both the centre button and the spoke pads are working though the horns sound a bit ropey. First job tomorrow tune the horns if possible and then get the radiator in. Looking at the headlights the reflectors are in a poor state has anyone sourced new ones or had them resilvered?

Hi all
Bit more done as the radiator is in and all connected up, spins over on the starter but will have to wait till I can repair the fuel tank drain plug/filter before we try any combustion experiments.

Just remembered I tuned the horns before I put the radiator back and the sound has changed from a coarse braying noise to a much louder and more melodious one...Result!

And now it is back together! managed to crank the compressor back into life and blew out the fuel line back to the tank as well.
