Just a query. What is the procedure in the UK with importing a restoration project. As in a basket case/non runner.
Over here (IRL) we now have to present an import in a 'roadworthy' (more or less) condition to the NCT (MOT to you). The car has to be running under its own steam, as in drive it off and on a trailer. Then and only then will they take the import fee, and issue a registration plate and log book.
Previously, all they needed was the paperwork, and a general look at the project just to know that it existed.
There are a few people over here with resto projects that they've had for years, and with no sign of them being finished in the near future, they are now stuck in limbo.
There was an amnesty period, which has now passed. I have a friend who brought in a Aprilia some 10 years ago, and is now unable to get the car registered.

Kevin, it was just another "commodity" freely traded across an EU border, have got original log book, when car is road worthy at some stage, take it from there, it now doesn't need an MOT, but in order to get it registered for a number plate etc a recognised Lancia expert ( from LMC no doubt, or if I remember correctly an guy from the NI branch of Vintage/classic car club), has to inspect it and declare the car as per the Portuguese Log book, this will then generate a UK/ N Ireland log book and registration onto an age related N Ireland plate from the 1950s.
