Does anyone have a clever solution to replace the rubber rollers that guide the window glass up through the doors?

All on my car are either seized with flats worn on them, perished or missing altogether. The outside bracket is welded to the door while the inside one, which is spring loaded to run on the glass, is riveted.

I’m sure Chugga, or someone, must have come up against this problem in the past!  See pics for details of what I'm talking about.

I will start making nitrile rubber products in the near future, so unless there is something readily available I may be interested in making these as a RetroPart project.

It's not the rubber part that's the problem, it's how to get the pin out to fit the new rubber on. Most have seized and rusted in and can't be reached down inside the door.

Well, well, never seen one of those before.   Mine is a first series.  I have just checked my spare second series door and the roller is present (and seized).  Was this a second series refinement?  It does not appear in  first  series Tavole.

My car is an early first series, so I would guess they would all have them. They are shown on TAV 42a of the later 1st series manual, p/nos 38-96049, 38-96050 & Ch35. Sorry, I used the 2nd series drawing as I though it is easier to see how they fit!
I was wondering if they are really needed, would be much easier just to take them off??

What stops yours rattling? We have had two cracked front windows from people slamming them, and they certainly do rattle. Rollers are present (1937 car) but rubber appears hard and perished. If there is one roller per window, what does the glass bear against on the other side?

It seems they do have a job to do so if they are missing or causing a problem may I suggest a small block of PTFE as an interim fix while the correct parts are sourced.

It should be easy (relatively) to source and fit.

I always think in a case like this that if Lancia Engineers saw fit to design them, and Bean Counters okayed the expense to make them, then there are probably good reasons for installing them in the first place.  Smiley

If your car is 1937 then they were there from the start and I'd better get down to making some sort of substitute!
