We got it running for Le Mans a few years ago. I cannot remember exactly what the event was, but it was for previous competitors. Martin Birrane had raced Le Mans a few times.
In any event the car ran ok, but suffered brake problems. It had been sitting in the museum at Mondello for years. Note the wheels/tyres in the last photo are from my own car (15") as is the steering wheel. The original steering wheel was cracked and the 400mm wheels and tyres were a little 'aged'.

I've not seen it done on a Flamina...

The method, as such, is to find some wheels with good middles and rotten rims (typically those rolled edge type that rust from the inside), cut the rims off, and weld into the rims from a Rover P6 or whatever it happens to be.  Various people have done it over the years but these days its probably only Tim Burret.  His "extra" is to drill cooling holes before removing the original rims so he's left with neat semi-circles where the centre joins the rim almost like spokes.

This is his car.  Click on the photo to zoom.  Hand welds?

At least 2 of the wheels on my car were made by Tim (as I bought them as spares). The other 4 were probably made by him as well, as the welds look very similar.
Louise and Jason Kennedy recently had new wheels made by a firm in the UK. The main problem with mine is that they will not fit over 5/6 series drums without modification. The reason they fit the car pictured is because the drums had spacers fitted which allowed the rims to clear the drums.
