The Lancia Chairman’s Lament

Words by Guy McDougall 2012
Tune: “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for” by those Celtic rockers - You Too

I have waved the Lancia banner
I have carried the Lancia shield
Only to be with you
To try and please most of you

I have begged
I’ve cajoled
To get new members to enrol
Only to be turned down
That really brings me down

So I still haven't found what I'm looking for
So I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I’ve done picnics, rallies and clinics
Given advice to experts and loonies
Until I was tired
But yes I’m still running

I’ve been helped by some who are angels
Criticised by just a few devils
We’ve all types of members
There’s good, bad, and ugly

But I still haven't found what you’re looking for
But I still haven't found what you’re looking for

I believe in the Lancia Club
Where all those models should blend into one
That should be fun!
And yes, I believe it

I’ve got some Betas and Gammas
A scruffy Delta and HPEs
Some Appia Berlinas
A couple of other wrecks
You may not believe it

So I still haven't found what I'm looking for
So I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what you’re looking for
But I still haven't found what you’re looking for

I think Bono was writing about an Irish Car Club, but at the risk of alienating some of the more militant members who may just have set off a bomb in a pub or kneecapped him, he watered down the original words (which were similar to what I've written), and so the true meaning behind the song was lost.

Thanks Chris.

I must point out that the words I penned are from my personal experience only, but are offered in a spirit of empathy for Chairmen all over the world.

Any resemblance to Lancia Chairmen past or present, alive or dead is purely co-incidental, and the work is pure fiction.
