Rebuilding Solex 42DDHF carbs etc.
I recently contacted Gower and Lee about rebuilding a pair of 42s for the 1600HF. Yes, they knew exactly what to do, but said they were so busy, turn-round time would be 10 - 12 weeks! So I Emailed Gabiele David of Italian Carburetors, Corlo, Ferrara, Italy - eBay shop Alfa1750s (I have previously bought Solex jets and etc. from the firm - they can supply almost any size). 20 minutes later he replied, basically saying that if there are no fractures, anything can be done to these carbs to reinstate them to as new. English seems to be understood and well written. The firm have a contract with UPS too.
The parcel was uplifted from my house; 3 days later delivered to Corlo, and the machining work started on the day of receipt. It was completed the next day, and the parcel despatched back to me the following day.
Absolutely superb job :- Ultrasonic clean; mounting flange faced; new bushes for spindles; choke lightly machined for roundness; new spindles, butterflies, and setscrews. It was my choice to strip the carbs to the bare body only, but I suspect if I had sent the complete units, there may well have been new diaphragms and float jets fitted too - (I ordered them separately). Plus they look like new. There charges were also very reasonable, and paid through PayPal.
I can only strongly recommend the firm - have a look at their eBay shop to see what is there for sale. Needless to say, the car engine is now performing superbly as well.
