Pic of me and my car at 'Kirky' in Northen Ireland. My first race at the circuit and a 2nd place to boot ! Yonks ago I used to look at photos of Aurelias in various magazines, and even now looking at this one I find it hard to believe it's actually mine. They really are a wonderful car.
I hope Barrie Crowe would approve...

Stunning photograph and I'm sure Barrie Crowe would approve.  It reminds me that when some automobile engineer explained that, when cornering, the steering geometry of the sliding pillar suspension was all wrong it was pointed out that, if you were serious, the other wheel was unlikely to be on the ground.....

Lovely photo - I can almost hear it...  As to geometry toe-in/out stops being an issue as well.

This was a charity event, where people 'paid' for passenger laps. It was a wet, cold day and my 'co-driver' who had expressed an interest in racing has since taken up scuba diving (safer he says) Myself and Mr Cassidy (in the Tiger) had just overtaken the Golf (i think its a Golf). as you can see I'm running a little wide...as the Tiger passed on the apex, I ended up off the track, through the gravel and almost into the pitlane entrance. A few years previously I'd understeered at that same corner, into a tyrewall, and demolished a 'borrowed' car. Not one of my better days. The camber always throws you  offline.

My first event in the car. Still in the 'Barrie Crowe' colours. This was a three day sprint/hillclimb based on sections of the old Gordon Bennett course. I'd been 2nd on the first 2 days behind David Millers XK120, so I was determined to beat him on the final day at least. It was a downhill sprint, through a few chicanes and a left uphill short run to the finish ( in a pub carpark). Another competitor who rallycrosses a 600 bhp Metro says to me 'give her a bit o feckin wellie'....I duly obliged, and as I sped backwards threw the first chicane with haybales, cones and marshalls running for cover, his words rang in my ears. Still 2nd, but got a big glass plate for the 'Spirit of the Event' award. also got a bill from the local hire company for the cones.

The last Phoenix Park Motor races in 2009. Getting more expensive to run each year, mainly due to the fact that its free to the public, so any revenue comes from entry fees and sponsership. Both of which are sadly lacking these days. Run over a much shorter course than in previous years, a triangular circuit, very little run off, and if you do run off, plenty of trees, ponds and live deer to avoid.

Kevin, a great account of racing in Ireland, complete with encouragement from fellow competitors.

I suppose its too much to expect that there could to be any photos of a spinning B20 complete with a halo of bales, cones and fleeing marshalls !!

Well done on 2nd and I'm not surprised that you won the 'spirit of the event' award. When the word gets around about this little happening maybe you'll be given 'respect' and a little more track space.
