Thanks to Mr. Clark's post, I now have a similar valve tool to try, from the same source as the pushrods.   This tool has a moveable  ' handle ' which can be used as a pointer to align with the valve lifting rod. Handle secured with a grub screw. Also a thumbscrew to lock the rod into position.
One pushrod fitted and 10 more ordered as spares.

Thanks Mike, first class work from Alan Holley. Detailed work over and above what I expected and at a small fraction of commercial rates.

Nine more pushrods.
Also a DIY tool for lock wire which I have tried on some  exhaust wrap.

Thanks Mike. It obviously fits in a manual pinion drill.

Engine started first turn following the snowy conditions.
But I now have a cracked exhaust downpipe. I have a spare pair to fit which Dave Gee kindly sent me last year.

New down pipe in place. Had to cut the existing as it was stuck in the adjacent section. Only now, looking at the attached flash photo has a weld become apparent.

Downpipe now fitted. A drive round the test route planned now, but clutch pedal not depressing. Even following adjustment a fastener in the mechanism is fouling the new pipe very slightly, but only when the pedal is nearly 'to the floor'. So another 2mm required.
Probably divine intervention, as whilst looking under the car, oil dripping , but only with the engine running.  Oil filter leaking, but thankfully a turn on the oil filter securing nut has stopped this.

I keep a spare fuel can in the boot, so thought it was time to keep it more secure with these straps.

That’s a lovely strap solution! I will replicate that!

Thank you, I will improve the straps with some Chicago post screws. The shackles and eyes are from the very helpful Medway Slings, Strood, Kent.

Four miles completed without any thing breaking.
So I am preparing my Weber carburettors with a view to fitting them. The original banjo connections have larger ends than the 'barb' type and larger than the single and more modern banjo retrofitted. Quite a tight fit despite the fuel hose being correct size and lubrication . Are these larger sizes designed for a more flexible hose? Maybe the plastic green coloured type?
Also fitted a repaired thermostat housing.
