Charles,
If you don’t get any better or nearer suggestions, you could try my local Muswell Hill tester. They are thorough in their testing but realistic in not failing a car for trivial things that you can fix yourself. They trade as Sutton Road Garage and are based at 60-66 Sutton Road N10 – tel: 020 8883 0970.

as its not a sealed unit the leaking is not really influencing performance .(but you need to explain how a damper works maybe to the mOT inspector which he may not appreciate;... )

Silver Aprilia NSJ 550 – seen this afternoon in suburban Muswell Hill. Looking as if it was smiling as it sped away from the MOT test centre - see photo below and another one of the car relaxing at the back of the garage.
