Hi,

My race Fulvia 1600HF is currently running on a Lumention Optronic ignition system but having replaced just about everything else I think it might be the source of a recurring misfire.  I have been looking at alternative systems and wondered if anyone had any experience of using the 123 ignition.

Thanks for your help.

Ken.

Hi Ken,
Check with Huib, web master of the Viva Lancia site (no connection with the LMC) or read this page:

Thanks Jan,

I have sent him an email, so far haven't heard anything but hopefully will soon. Didn't realise he was so involved in the website.

Cheers,

Ken.

Or fit an Aldon Ignitor from Aldon Automotive, a magnetically-triggered system which fits entirely inside the distributor. It's a UK-branded American Pertronix system, and it works brilliantly in my HF. Part number is MR-LS1. A 123 is ultimately better with its electronic advance curves, but it's also much more expensive.

Thanks John.

I know that some of the Alfa guys in HSCC use that system so it is good to hear of someone using it successfully on a Fulvia.

Cheers,

Ken.

Have used Crane's Fireball system on older Lancias (I think a friend has put it on a Fulvia) and never had a problem with it. Replaces the points only, with a box under the dash.

Fulvia S2 1600HF (1971)

I fitted a 123-ignition system to my S2 1600HF earlier this year.  As already noted it was not a cheap option, but it has worked well and was easy to fit and adjust.  The worst point  is that the correct advance curve (of 12?) is set by adjusting a small rotary switch using an allen key.  The switch resides at the bottom of a deep hole on the base of the distributor, so this can only be done with the distributor out - and in my case with a strong light and a magnifying glass to check the setting.  There was a marked reduction in misfires under hard acceleration in my case.

No information about the advance curves was supplied with the distributor, but Huib Guerink has been very helpful and I am sure would be able to supply some if requested.  I have attached a photo of my installation.

Luke Wos has developed a superb distributor for the 1.6HF that I use for racing and keep original points one for backup.

See:  http://web.me.com/ekranoplan/LUKAFOTORACING2/page17/page17.html

If you can't stretch to Huib's one this should fit the bill at probably less than half the price.

Happy Christmas!
