Ade, thanks to you and your team, Carol and I enjoyed this event so much this year, that plans are already being hatched to attend again in 2011.

We are hopefully bringing my 1960 Appia Coupe’ with us.

What do you suggest will be the best port to have it shipped to?

Any other tips for attending the rally in Europe will be much appreciated.

Should we be paying you direct in £ sterling, or sending off Euros to the organisers ?
Thanks,
Nick

When I take my Appia Series 3 over to Europe, I don't bother to switch over to euro headlights (I do have a set which the car was wearing when it first came ito this country) - I just tape the lens as appropriate. Breakdown insurance is good, hi-vis gillet, warning triangle and spare bulbs mandatory. I put in any 95 RON fuel I come across and add some lead replacement juice (probably not needed on a standard Appia Berlina). Most important item for the Sliding Pillar is some string/light cable or wire to tie the entry plate on with! Second most important item is a good appetite as you will eat and drink well!

Which port to use probably depends on where you live. From Sussex we always buy Eurotunnel vouchers with our Tesco points (this is very good value). I'm still thinking of then taking a swinging countrified route across the North of France and then going up to Liege rather than use Belgian roads.

Here are some photos of a car that would be eligible for the Sliding Pillar Rally, but somehow I doubt if it will ever take part! I bet you wish it would though.

See post under the heading VSCC Silverstone race-day 23 April.

For info : if anyone is having a problem with the bank transfer as a consequence of not having the bank's name on the last page of the entry form (Barclays could not complete the transaction for me today); I have Googled it, and it is :

KBC Bank NV, Brussels, BE 1080.

Nick, yes it is KBC Bank (good bank - they sponsor the spring classic bike races!) and the branch name is Dilbeek-Centraal not Brussels if your bank needs to know

I arrived back last night from another wonderful SPR in the Aprilia.

Sure, the weather could have been kinder  -  it rained on and off. More on than off, but stopped 10 miles from Calais on our return. Which was lucky as my wipers failed on Sat. a.m.  On the plus side, the people were companionable, the days and evening were very sociable, and the Bilderberg Hotel near Vaals was exceptional. Eduard and the organising team organised a really terrific Sliding Pillar weekend.

Next year it is in the Cotswolds, centred roughly on Broadway. Ade will no doubt post the dates on his return.
