I have a few specialist tools for electrical work.  Would you recommend the 1lb ball pein or the 5lb claw hammer?

Tried pouring a pint of scotch on it to no avail.  Took the regulator off, opened it up, cleaned up the contacts [not sure it was necessary but it felt like I was doing something] then eventually found a faulty wire.  Replaced it, all connected up and it charges at 13.6-13.7v.  Towards the bottom of the range, perhaps, but perfectly adequate.
