Brantz gearbox sensor takeoff

There is a Brantz (trip meter) sensor that fits onto the gearbox speedo output.

Does anyone know the thread size of a Fulvia gearbox speedo output??

Is it M18 1.5??

If its the normal Branz sensor it is driven by the existing speedo cable, the cable cover is shortened by approx 1/2 inch to allow the sensor to sit in line just behind the bulkhead and be driven with the cable now passing through it. The sensor sends a pulse to the trip meter via negative and earth wires, the Branz readout can be either mechanical or digital and is mounted on the dash. There is another sensor avaliable which is driven from the wheel centre and thus is not affected by wheelspin. As far as I know there is no gearbox take off. Probably better to ring me as I have two fitted to my cars.

Hi Tim

I have sensor fitted directly on to the gearbox speedo takeoff so I did not have to cut the cable as the cable then screws on to the sensor.  I bought it from Don Barrow (see his website). He offers 2 types and it is the one with the square drive.  I did have to turnup a spacing washer to enable it to fit correctly.

But you surely dont have to cut the cable, it is threaded through the sensor? I fitted mine in five minutes following the instructions.

Thanks for this. Reason for asking is that I have had an inline sensor which you had to cut to fit in and then use tie wraps or mini jubilee clips to hold in place. I was not very happy with this and it contributes now to some speedo flicker at low speed.

I saw the m18/1.5 take off (and it listed ford skoda fiat etc) with sq drive and phone Don Barrow but he couldnt confirm (nor could another supplier).

So Peter (W) how thick from memory is the spacer (acts as a thick washer??)?

I cannot remember now as it was a few years ago that I fitted it.  I will take it out and measure it.

Re the speedo flicker, this will occur if the two mini jubilee clips are too tight and restrict the free spinning of cable.
